Being a straight dude who frequents Mervyn’s, El Hub almost never notices my eye makeup, so I was shocked and delighted when he noticed mine the other day and said he liked CoverGirl’s Intense ShadowBlast Eyeshadow in Blue Bomb ($9).
One of six shades in CoverGirl’s new Intense ShadowBlast Eyeshadow line, Blue Bomb, like the other colors in the line, is billed as waterproof with a built-in primer.
I’m a big supporter of products that save me steps throughout my day, in part because they give me more time to lust after Vampire Eric. 
CoverGirl describes these shadows as “intensely beautiful,” which kinda sets ‘em up for something quite dramatic, right?
Drum roll please…
PROOT! Well, I wasn’t expecting to have to apply two or three layers or do so much patting and blending to achieve luscious, rich color, but I did. Beyond that, I think the fluffy texture, which feels almost whipped to me, also makes Blue Bomb a little difficult to control.
And how about creases? Yep, it’s got those too, creasing and fading about half way through the day.
Bummer.
I love 
this particular color but don’t like the time it takes to layer and blend. Coupled with limited wear time, that doesn’t make Blue Bomb a favorite of mine.

I was VERY curious about this shadow when I saw it on TV. I had high hopes too for those mornings before work when time seems to speed up for some reason…

Sad face on the creasing – it’s a lovely color, though! And I also get thrills and giggles when the fiancé compliments my eye makeup 😀 His preference is also for blue, especially bright blue liner. 🙂

Mervyn’s! I didn’t know there were still any of those around. I used to live in Salt Lake City when I was younger and I remember that store. Must be a west coast thing. I have a vague memory of my mom and I getting locked out of our car in the Mervyn’s parking lot!
I celebrated hump day with a white chocolate macadamia nut cooke from Subway. 🙂 For a sub shop, their cookies are pretty good!
it creases, and the color is kinda dolly parton-ish! huge huge pass for me. :/
I had the same problems with the regular CG ShadowBlasts! I was hoping that they might have fixed some of these issues, but it doesn’t sound like it :(.
I can definitely see how the whipped texture would make it hard to work with. On a brighter note, the original ShadowBlasts crayons tended to break off at the base (even when I used very little pressure), so I guess the tube/whipped formula and doe foot applicator is a nod in the right direction.
It’s too bad it’s hard to work with, it’s a pretty color:(
I know! I need to hunt this color down in powder form. I like it a lot!
This feels like a job for Benefit! Email them and request this be their next color for their creaseless cream eyeshadows 🙂

I was just contemplating purchasing this at Target the other day! The colors all look so beautiful and fluffy but I was worried about wear-time and creasing. Now I’m glad I passed! Too bad, they looked so promising 🙁

Bawww, this reminds me of my first makeup item ever! I was 12 years old and it was this (in retrospect) terrible, creasing, fading Maybelline silvery-blue (not nearly as pretty of a color as this) chunky eye shadow pencil. But I would rub it all over my lids everyday and felt beautiful :D.

That’s a pretty color. Do you think it would work better with a primer, instead of just relying on the fact that it’s supposed to have primer in it? Just curious.

That is a really pretty color! I’m never sure which certain cool colors would complement my warm complexion but Blue Bomb really complements you! 😀 I really need to get in the groove of playing around with my make-up; I feel like I’ve been neglectful of my babies! I need to schedule a makeover time with my gal pals and bust out my make-up brushes 😀

You never know if something will work until you try! Give blues and greens a go… they’re so pretty on warm skin. Maybe try pairing them with your favorite warm gold or bronze?

I tried it by itself and layered on top of NARS Pro-Prime. It creased in both cases!

I love the color, I wouldn’t expect Cover Girl Eye makeup to be so pigmented.
Oh no! The color looks so great on you. I guess I’m skipping these. $9 isn’t much, but it’s too much for something that creases!
I have it in the beige goldy color and I like it! I’ve just been using it as a highlighter along my brow bone. While it is a minor pain to apply I just put some in the area let it sit for a sec then pat it out and that seems to get it thicker. Or pat as soon as you put it down and it does go on pretty thin. At least there you don’t have to worry about creasing!

I bought and returned the beige blaze one. I thought the formula was much too watery. Even after two coats it still was thin. And the built in primer does nothing for creasing. Mine only lasted for about 3 hours before settling in my crease.

is there a good, cheap eye shadow primer that you would recommend? im a poor college student and need a new one lol
ELF makes an eyeshadow primer for $1. You can get it at Target. It’s the only primer I use (because I refuse to shell out $20+ for one) and it works great for me. My makeup lasts all day without creasing when I use it. :]

I have both this is beize blaze, platinum pop, and forever pink and I love them! They don’t crease on me at all but i do use them as colored bases – i.e. i use a primer first (nyx HD primer) and then the colorgirl and then shadow. No creasing for me. I do use a light hand with these and I really love beige blaze as it is a dupe for bare study paint pot which is my favorite base of all time. I must say though that bare study creases on me as well if i don’t use a primer underneath. So, maybe it’s just the blue color? I dunno. I like them!
I’m not surprised that it wasn’t any good. It’s claims seemed too good to be true, especially for an oily lid girl like me.
I’ve never been crazy about these kinds of shadows. I find they apply very uneven and end up creasing pretty badly. I usually end up using the ones I do have as a base.
Disappointing (but not surprising), and talk about expensive! You can find comparable products from mid-to-high end brands for only about five dollars more.
I have the product in the color Beige Blast and it worked more of me as an enchancing primer. Reminds me of the effect UDPP in Sin does since it brings out a sheen of gold when you layer a shadow over it. It’s not great by itself but it’s wonderful as an affordable primer. 🙂
Oh. $9 on each eye shadow..I could do a couple of those but the shipping would kill me on such a small purchase.
Hmmm….I bought the taupe one and the butter cream one. I had good luck with both and haven’t had much luck with many cream based eye shadows in the past. I did use TF eye primer as well. I got mine on a BOGO 1/2 off the second item at CVS. I think they were 7.99 a piece. Not stellar, but not bad either.
I bought the brown/taupe one, and as long as I only use one layer, it does okay.
