Expect a downpour at Dior this spring when the new Montaigne Collection comes to town, but you won’t need your umbrella for this storm. That’s because it’ll be pouring pearls when the 13-piece release for eyes, lips, cheeks and drips on Dior counters, in Dior stores and at Sephora in the next few weeks.
Named after the Paris address where the first Dior boutique opened back in 1946, the palette of pearly grays and baby pinks suggests spring soirees in the City of Lights, and to these soirees you’re wearing pearls. It’s a soft, sophisticated, natural look, and passersby won’t be able to miss your subtly shimmering glow.
To my eye, the Soft Pink Design Quint ($58), one of two for eyes in the release, characterizes the collection’s vibe with its nuanced pinks and grays. It comes with (almost) everything a girl would need to live the eye portion of the look — an eyeshadow base, a liner, two shimmer shadows and one glitter shadow. The only thing missing: mascara.
Below are pics and swatches showing the colors on NC35 and NW20 skin. Take a look, and let me know what ya think. 🙂

It’s funny how there’s a season for everything, and I guess this one’s (spring) all about pearls. Luckily, I like pearls. 🙂
From what you’ve seen so far, which pearly spring release is exciting you more, Montaigne or Les Perles de Chanel?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I have a sister named Pearl! Haha, she would love this quint since she’s a fan of sheer pink eyeshadows with dark liner. The colors look so pretty in the pan!
Hi Crystal,
Aw, how sweet! I wish I had a quint named after me, LOL!
I think I like Les Perles de Chanel better.. I have 4 of Dior designer quints and hardly use them.
Hi Natalie,
Do you think you might be picking up the Chanel quint?
I lovee the soft, dreamy colors in this palette. I’m actually most curious about the silver gloss in this release, I definitely love my unusual lipgloss colors xD Between this and Chanel though…I think Chanel probably wins. I just love that collection, especially the Black Pearl polish.
Silver gloss is interesting. Givenchy did one for holiday 2009 that looked like a sheer sparkle on the lips.

Hmmm… I’m going with Chanel. These shades look cute in the pan, but they seem so sheer when swatched! And okay, so sheerness can be a good thing, but I like my palettes to have at least a few more pigmented shades 😉
Hi Rae,
I hear ya. I wouldn’t have minded if they added a punchy purple to this one!
Very pretty but this quint is very been there done that. Pass. Bring on the Chanel instead!
You’re so funny! I like both for different reasons… this one’s gorgeous for the sparkle!
wow, that looks so soft and romantic!!! i really really want that palette and I rarely am bouncing over their palettes
Hi Vonnie,
If you get this one you’ll have to let me know what you think about it! Happy New Year!
I’m really loving greys and pinks lately. Will have to check it out!
Hi Tracy,
I hope you like this palette!
I also love gray and pinks together but I have a feeling that this palette would be sheer on little ol’NC42 me! I am still dreaming about the Chanel quint for Spring.
Hi Lexi,
Love that Chanel palette. Hmm, maybe I should bust it out today…
Happy New Year!
I have a deal with my Nordstrom Chanel S.A. – she knows of my vow of no-makeup buying this month so when she’s down to the last palette she’s going to hold it for me. Luckily she’s well stocked and feels that I should be safe till the last week of this month. Finger’s crossed, of course!
I definitely like Chanel better! To be honest, I’m really disappointed by how this Dior quint swatches… it looks like really weak pigmentation.
Hi Mimi,
I think the focus of this one was more shimmer/sparkle. It’ll be pretty for quick washes of glitter on the lid!
Ah! Even so, I wish the liner was more opaque and that the shimmer/sparkle was more pronounced. I want as much sparkle for my dollar as possible, damn it!
I think I’m liking the Chanel better. I definitely prefer Black Pearl over Gris Montaigne.
Black Pearl is swoon worthy!
I can’t wait to see the rest of this collection. Chanel’s quint for the spring looks better than this one but I’d still want to swatch to see for sure. 😛
I’m excited about the rest of the collection, too. Dior always churns out some interesting things!
Super pretty, especially on NW20 skin!
Hey lady!
Did you get a chance to play with your new Chanel goodies yet?
Hope you’re feeling better, too. It’s never fun to have a cold!
Leave it,I can’t wait to see D&G spring collection!
Me too! Pat McGrath is a genius!
please do a tutorial where would you apply all the colors?
Hi Natalie,
I’ll see what I can do. 😉
I’m a sucker for that kind of colours, although I must say they look extremely better on your skin than NW20! Still tempting though, but I might try and stick to my resolution of using the makeup I already have (there are two or three gorgeous palettes I’ve never even used!) before buying more.
At least for January. 🙂
PS: Karen, I’m hoping to stop by SF in March-April, I might tap you for your stylist’s details if it works out! 😛
(I meant “hairdresser”. I got up early.)
Hi Advah,
Sure, just let me know! She’s located North of SF (just over the Golden Gate Bridge), so maybe you can see her if you’re going to be exploring popular tourist spots in the area (Tiburon, Mill Valley) or if you’re on your way up to the Napa Wine Country. She books up pretty fast so the second you know you’re coming you’ll want to make an appointment.
I’ll definitely keep that in mind, thank you!
You’re welcome! And if you’re around let me know — maybe we can meet for coffee or something! 🙂
I like both, going to buy Chanel because it is a bit more new.
Hi Andreea,
Yay! Let me know what you think of the Chanel one once you get it.
I like Chanel better.. that doens’t mean I don’t like this palette.
Both are pretty in their own way!
Hi Karen-
Beautiful palette! Is the liner a cream?
Hi Jackie,
Yup, the liner is a cream! The texture is similar to the other Design quints I reviewed a while back:
https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/cosmetics/dior-pink-design-5-colour-eye-palette-friday-fun-and-a-go-go-girl-face-of-the-day/

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. 🙂
The colors look so pretty and romantic in the pan, but so sheer when swatched! I don’t mind soft shades but I like them to be more pigmented so I’ll pass on this.
I think they were going for sparkly, subtle eye looks with this one. I don’t mind sheer as long as it blends well!
I was thinking the same thing about pearls (or that maybe Chanel and Dior are doing some make-up espionage). 🙂
It’s really a pretty palette, esp since I’m a fan of pink and subtle/everyday. I think I’d give it a go if it included a tube of Dior Show. I’ve yet to try it and a small tube in this palette would have been my best incentive to buy. 🙂
It’s been a while since I’ve worn DiorShow, and from what I can remember I liked it. They have a new one out for spring called DiorShow 360, which I’m gonna test this week:

Oooh, snazzy double helix brush!
My only Faux Cils complaint is that the brush won’t stay “fluffy”. It gets matted down like a wet cat and I cringe every time I have to waste product fluffing it on a tissue. Sorry, that sounded a little whiny! Can’t wait for your 360 review!! 🙂
The shades are very pretty in the pan but that is waaay too sheer ! Not very impressed by the liner either. But they don’t usually include actual creamy liners do they ?
And I agree with what’s been said, it does look better on you than on a NW20 skin ! Which is why it’s very interesting to see both swatches =)
I think I might buy the Prisme Quatuor from Givenchy, in # Blue Collection, though it’s not exactly cheap…
Have a nice day ! 😉
Hi Milena,
Dior’s been doing all-in-one quints with base, liner and shadows in the last couple of collections. The liners are actually pretty nice — they’re smooth and pigmented!
Givenchy shadows are so nice, plus you can’t beat their elegant packaging. 🙂
gray! <3333
my new year's resolution is to buy less eyeshadows. but this is one of the few that i will be getting this year! i likey!
I think you need to break that resolution stat, LOL!
i think im going to splurge on this palette.
ive not bought anything from peacocky and mickey contractor (last purchase was 2 chromagraphic pencils!) ….
I ended up really, REALLY loving Mickey Contractor, especially the blushes and the Fluidlines. You’ve gotta check out Siahi Fluidline. Seriously! Might be pretty with all your grays!
siahi is sold out online. so is sur (the blush i wanted)….
ill probly drive out on thurs to grab a pot of siahi and the sur blush ….
guess what though: im wearing that red pigment from stylishly yours (with some print on the crease) today under the NARS smudgeproof eyeshadow base: and it is lovely! i never thought id wear red eyeshadow ever.
I love pink and gray eye combo. Hmm…the swatch look much better on NC35 than on lighter skintone (which look kinda wash out).
The colors are very nuanced, for sure. And that’s with the shades built up!
Pass. Not very pigmented.
How do you think this compares to the Too Faced Nude Revue palette, since they’re both gentle grays and pinks?
Oops, I meant the Naked Eye Kit. Silly self.
Thank you for the swatches on the light skin, it was very helpful for me. Unfortunately, these are not my kind of colours but I am still thinking if I should get the quint from the holiday or maybe they will have something unique for summer…
They look lovely but I think on me the Chanel Perles are going to look better in terms of the eyeshadows. I am quite curious though about the lipsticks since I’m such a pink and red addict!
I swatched these last weekend and they underwhelmed me–too frosty and no enough variation between colors, especially the gris gris quint. The rotating mascara looks interesting though.
I love these illuminating pink shades, but I have a tan complexion and a natural flush in my cheeks. I wonder what shades I should avoid??
I like this but I loooove the Chanel quint. Can’t wait to get it!!
i fell in love with this palette!! im planning to buy it when it comes to stores but id like to ask you something, (btw i LOVE your blog!!!) youve included a photo of swatches of nw20 skin, im nc15 and curious if these would also look purplish on my skin tone as they did on you, because i truly like how the colors look in the pan, but i really cant wear purples much :/
