Dolce & Gabbana’s Sicilian Lace collection for fall 2010 doesn’t officially hit counters for a couple more weeks, but if you can’t/don’t want to wait that long, don’t. 🙂 Feed your need for instant makeup gratification with the Smooth Eyeshadow Quad in Nude ($59).

The entire Dolce & Gabbana Sicilian Lace collection
Available now, the quad’s one of two permanent collection products being repromoted in Dolce & Gabbana’s upcoming six-piece fall release (the other being Shine Lipstick in Perfection).
Can I just say how much I
this quad? We’re practically inseparable, all because of Nude’s four easy-to-wear eyeshadow shades.
Which ones do I reach for the most? — no question, the beige and tan mattes. I think both of them really stand out in the high-end matte eyeshadow crowd, laying down saturated color with a soft and silky texture that makes them surprisingly easy to blend.
Have you ever struggled like I have to mellow out lines and edges with matte shadows before? I don’t seem to have that problem with these (LOVE!).
And I also like the job Dolce & Gabbana does here with the two shimmery shades — the plum and sheer golden peach. Both really latch onto my skin, leaving hardly any shadow fallout beneath my eyes.
NOTE: I tried the plum along my waterline once, but it drove me to tears! 🙂 That is to say, my eyes started tearing, but it could have just been something specific to my body chemistry. Might be something to think about, though, if you were hoping to use the dark shade along your waterline.

Swatches from left on NC35 skin: shimmery plum, shimmery golden peach, matte beige, matte tan

No doubt, this Nude’s an indulgence at $59, but breaking down the makeup math, it works out to about $15 per shadow — pretty reasonable when compared to a single pan of MAC eyeshadow, although you do get a little less product here than you do with MAC (.04 oz for D&G versus .05 oz for MAC). Offsetting the size difference, however, you get the convenience of having all of the colors in the quad in one place, as well as Dolce & Gabbana’s luxurious (OOH!) gold packaging.
One Way to Wear It For my eye look today, I started by applying the beige shade over my lids and sweeping the tan shade into the crease. Then, I mixed the two shimmery shades together and patted them onto my lids, into the crease and along the lower lash line.
Let me know how you feel about Nude. If you could see yourself adding these neutrals into your makeup routine, Nude might be worth a splurge. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+/A-
Cat in a box
You know how I go through bouts of insomnia, right? Well, last week I was cleaning my desk in the middle of the night and happened to find a wayward Nordstrom gift card from last Christmas. It was all the excuse I needed to attack the Nordie’s Anniversary sale! Huzzah for insomnia-driven online shopping sprees!

GUESS? Metallic Faux Leather Scuba Jacket

Steve Madden Ruched Faux Leather Bomber Jacket in Teal
The two “faux leather” (aka pleather, LOL!) jackets I ordered arrived yesterday, and when I opened the package the first thing Tabs did was launch right in.
Cats are so weird…

I know it’s way too warm to even think about wearing jackets right now… What can I say? I was blinded by pleather.
Have you done any clothes shopping lately? Are you looking at things for summer or fall?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

i purchased a 2 h&m jackets a few weeks ago. they were meant for spring but are totally wearable for fall. plus, they were on sale for like, $15 & $20! i even scored a $2 scarf. needless to say, i was a very happy shopper. especially since i’m always behind on sales!
p.s.
i’ve been thinking about fall clothes since summer started :p
what can i say? i love sweaters/jackets/scarves!
I like them too, but I also love beach clothing — swimsuits, sundresses, t-shirts, etc! If I had my way it would be summer all year long.
NICE! H&M is the best for really great deals. What do your jackets look like?
i’ve got a cropped blue jacket with military detailing and this gorgeous red, rose detailed jacket from the garden collection. photos here, if you’d like to see: http://callitbeauty.blogspot.com/2010/07/clothing-haul-h-gap.html
Very cute! I love the blue jacket especially.
Love that quad – its so luxe! The colors are pretty versatile as well!
Cats ARE weird arent they? We found Linus in the bathroom sink last night. 😀
Oh, Tabs just loooves chillin’ in the sink. We call it his “spa.” 🙂
Very pretty FOTD Karen! What a great find with the gift card.
Thanks, babe!
How are you feeling? I saw on twitter that you got sick on the plane. 🙁 The same thing always happens to me. Damn that recycled air!
I know freaking recycled air. I always get sick when I fly even though I take emergen-c or vitamins with me. Oh well… at least I got sick after my trip and not during, right?
Any fun plans for the month?
ME TOO! I bombard my body with both Emergen-C and Cold Eeze before, during and after the flight and I always get sick. 🙁
This month my in-laws are coming to visit. I think we might be going to Reno…
I love those colors, they are so glam. Love your jacket (GUESS? Metallic Faux Leather Scuba Jacket) Karen!
Thanks Twetriz! I can’t wait to wear it come fall. 🙂
Have a good Thursday!
Hey pretty lady! How do you like the teal one? My cream one is being held hostage at my mom’s so I haven’t seen it yet!
I really like it a lot. I got the small and was afraid it would be too snug, but it fits perfectly. It’s also longer in the torso and hits below the hip, which I looove.
Good to know! I got small too – I hope it fits me!
The shoulders feel a little big but I think that’s because the pleather hasn’t settled in yet!
I heart the colors but not the price tag!
Dolce & Gabbana is a luxury brand, so the pricing is pretty typical for that bracket. I wish it was more affordable, too.
I love fall clothes and those jackets are pretty!
I recently bought two new cardigans from Banana Republic and a pair of jeans from Ann Taylors that came out to be four bucks. They have crazy good sales sometimes.
No way! That’s a fantastic deal!
I’m not loving the shadows. I too am NC35/37ish and purples always seem to make me look like I didn’t get enough rest. I think I’ll be skipping this release. 🙁
Good thing there’s plenty of fall releases to look forward to! 🙂
Beautiful as always!
Nothing wrong with early shopping, right now is when store buyers are testing new trends so you get first pick!
Thanks, Vanessa!
Jackets are a total weakness for me, and I *so* don’t need any more of them while I am living in Houston. A few days ago I couldn’t resist opening an email with Eddie Bauer’s gorgeous new fall women’s jackets and immediately started daydreaming about fall hikes. Wish I had more vacation time left this year!
Oh, a fall hike sounds lovely! They’re especially nice around the Bay Area. 🙂
Ohh that’s pretty and everything but i finally got the Urban Decay Naked palette!! Ahh i’m so happy i got it before I leave to go back to college cause i know I won’t be able to buy anything then lol. I thought i was kinda over it but then i saw it at my Sephora inside JCPenny and i was like yaaay 😛
Purple really suits your eyes! I guess purple is a suitable color for brown eyes haha. I hate those “rules” though that always put in articles. They’re so annoying. But i truly do like my pinky/purple eyeshadow shades 🙂
I love that last picture of Tabs. That’s such a good picture! The jackets are fab too 😀
Hey Noemii,
How are you liking your new palette?
I haven’t gotten a chance to play with it ! I’ve been so busy lately getting my things ready to move and helping someone else. So sad! But i do admire it so from afar..
The shimmery plum color in the quad is gorgeous!! I love me some plums 🙂
I love plums too, especially with golds!
That scuba jacket is awesome. You are inspiring me to go shopping – and I already have fall jackets to last me til I’m 50…
I think I might be the last person to get on the fall jacket boat, LOL! I just started getting into coats… apparently I’ve been missing some good stuff!
Karen, I think these colours do not suit you very well; you can wear incredible colours like pink! much better. I am on the other side – can’t wear coloured, have to wear browns.
So be sure this is not meant critical, but ENVIOUS! You have rocked the DIOR Smoky palette, this suited you incredibly good.
Thanks for the feedback, Andreea!
Love this quad, but love those jackets even more! Total jacket girl here, I think the last I counted I have 15…. Is that stunned silence I hear? ;0)
Hee hee! You are my idol. I just started getting into jackets… I think I sense a new obsession! 🙂
That GUESS jacket is sweet! I actually just picked up a CK mid-weight jacket that feels like it’s made of neoprene (less than half price… gotta love that). Also, ordered some Body Glove Board Shorts today. A little extra insurance (and bum coverage) for the upcoming water park visit.
Yes! That’s one thing about the pleather — it’s so affordable! 🙂
When are you headed to the water park? I hope there’s a BIG slide there!
We’ll be in Maine for the week of the 16th and spending one of the days at Splashtown/Funtown. The kids loved it last year and we had a blast too. They have some fun slides and one of those big funnel-type things that elicited a few OOOOHHHHs from the grown ups too!
I love those crazy scary slides (especially ones with a big drop)! Water parks in general are a little slice of heaven. 😀
Totally agree!! 🙂
Gorgeous look for you, Karen!
Thanks, MKDallas!
Think you might give this palette a go?
Those jackets are perfect for today’s 58 degree weather here in SF. What’s the weather like today in your neck of the woods?
GURL it was hella cold and overcast this morning. I was wearing long pants and a sweatshirt. Now it’s low 70s and sunny, which is quite cool for Novato at this time of year.
Is it any better out there now?
Tabs in a box – <333333
Hey, Karen!
I’m in LOVE with the Guess? jacket! But I need to save up for other stuff, can’t go spending all that money on fall D:
I’m still looking at some summer stuff, but I’d better get buying those cute hoodies and warm jeans!
The shimmery golden peach shade seems to be so beutiful, I love this quad !
Looking at the Dolce & Gabbana eyeshadows… it’s familiar. I could swear I had a Lancome quad from a few years back that was those exact colors! Guest List and Kitten Heel and Chic and Positive, which all looked FANTASTIC on my bronze skin (and all year long, really). If only D&G was a bit cheaper, I’d be all over a quad like this again!
Hello – a little late in the game but still glad I found your blog! (I was searching for concealer reviews and arrived at your site.) I like the 1st look — v. classy, and that look would look fab with those jackets.
My cat does the same thing when I open boxes 🙂 I also had the same reaction to the dark plum color in the Enigma palette from Chanel… Made me tear up so I had to take it off. What is it about the plum color??! The sales associate at Nordy’s said I might be allergic to red dye or something. Hmmm.
