While it’s true that quick escapes from the zombies — especially those fresh ones that can run — are a little easier if you aren’t toting around 24 different tubes of red lipstick, the makeup code of conduct is clear on the topic of red lipsticks. No tube gets left behind.
I’m always looking for a new excuse to grow my red lipstick collection/arsenal, and if you are too, don’t miss Laura Mercier’s new $26 Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Deco Rouge ($26) from the Art Deco Muse collection.
Before I’d even touched the tube, I had a feeling it might be special when I saw it worn down to the nub at a counter…
And then it was love at first swipe. The stuff of pin-up girl dreams, it’s a warm, blazingly bright tomato red unemcumbered by scents or flavors.
One layer of this lippie applied directly from the tube covers my lips completely. The formula is just thick enough, but not heavy, to be easy to control, and so I feel like I don’t even need to wear it with a lip liner.
Depending on how voraciously I’m devouring my Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies (or other snack du jour), it usually lasts on my lips from 5-6 hours, and my perpetually parched pout finds it pretty moisturizing, too.
Deco Rouge is one of those striking reds that makes an entrance, as opposed to an impression. If we were walking around the beauty department, and I saw someone wearing it, I’d nudge you with my elbow and say, “That girl is wearing Deco Rouge! I’d bet my soy chai latte on it.”
It’s a worthy addition to the world of red lipsticks, fo’ sho’.

I’ve been meaning to tell you about this scary-@ss movie I saw a couple weeks ago on Netflix called The Pact, but I was so completely freaked out by it that I think I blocked it out.
Without revealing too much of the story, it’s about two adult sisters who return to their childhood home after their mother’s death, and shortly after the first sister arrives, creepy stuff starts happening…
We meet the sister, see the house, then she’s on the computer and BAM! Aaaack! I’m freakin’ out!!
Suggestion: don’t even think about watching it if you’re home alone at night.
So now that I’ve sufficiently re-traumatized myself, let’s move on to sunnier subjects, like J. Renn and cats…and J. Renn as a grumpy cat (thanks, MJ!). 🙂

You could totally rock this red. There’s also a gold gloss in this collection’s that’s to die for. I bet it would be really pretty layered on top (not to tempt you or anything!).

The worst of the storm is supposed to start overnight here and hang out through most of the next three days. Glad I got to work in a Trader Joe’s run yesterday afternoon so I can stay in until things calm down. Getting around in the rain is not fun for me!
Speaking of Trader Joe’s, did you see that they took the beloved Triple Ginger Cookies and now have a version dipped in dark chocolate??!!!!

I feel like I’ve said this a bajillion times the past few weeks, but this is a GORGEOUS red! I don’t wear red lips myself, but if I did it would be a bright, very warm tomato-red like this one. It’s so, so stunning!

Of course the lippie looks great on you. A bit too orange for me. I was going to say I can’t wear anything on the orange side but then realized I also can’t wear corals, or pinks, or neutrals. This may be why I’m usually bare lipped. 🙂
