Jouer Glisten Lip Gloss in Nude Glisten on lips and Glistening Brightening Powder on upper cheek bones
My brain perceives sparkly makeup and ice cream (BASKIN-ROBBINS!) in similar ways. When I see either of them behind their respective counters, I do a lot of ooh-ing and aah-ing with grabby fingers in the air. Most of the time I can barely speak at all, with the only sentence I’m able to utter consisting of the words, “I want!”
That’s what glitter can do to ya. It’s powerful stuff — especially good glitter, like the kind in Jouer’s new Glisten Up collection for spring.

From left to right: Glisten Lip Gloss in Rose Glisten, Coral Glisten and Nude Gliste; Glisten Brightening Powder
Indie line Jouer takes a simple, straightforward approach to makeup that’s both feminine and sophisticated at the same time. The brand reminds me of Becca…if Becca left the beach early to hang out downtown.
Like good-looking, well-mannered men who also happen to be a little short, good glitter is small, fine and sophisticated (Ben McKenzie in a suit). It’s glitter for grownups. Picture the kind of glitter Snooki would wear, swing the pendulum in the opposite direction, and BAM! That’s good glitter (sorry, Snooks!).
Available now at Henri Bendel stores and also online, the pieces in Glisten Up come calling with just the right amount of good glitter. The release features three sheer glosses with subtle sparkle, a powder eyeshadow and a luminous loose powder that glows on the skin like stars in the sky. All of them are designed with luminescence in mind, aka soft shimmer.
Today I let my lips and cheeks enjoy the company of the glosses and loose powder…
Glisten Lip Gloss in Nude Glisten, Coral Glisten and Rose Glisten ($20 each)
These smooth glosses (no grit) are thick like a MAC Lipglass but nowhere near as sticky. They last about three hours on my lips and are neither scented nor flavored.
The sheer, almost transparent colors contain a faint whisper of shimmer. I don’t think I’m able to appreciate their subtlety on my pigmented lips as much as someone with lighter lips could.
I
their smooth texture and subtle shine and can see myself reaching for these before rushing out to do errands. I can also see wearing them when I want to pair subtle lips with a bold eye. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+
Glistening Brightening Powder ($28)
Imagine turning down the shimmer on a highlighting powder, and that’s Jouer’s new Glistening Brightening Powder. I think opalescent, peachy pink loose powder looks like crushed pink, peach and white pearls in a jar. It’s SUPER pretty. Fo’ reals, the swatch here doesn’t do it justice (I tried).
It even contains bits of golden glitter, which I thought might make it too disco, but no way. It illuminates skin with a pretty candlelit glow.
For these pics, I applied the powder onto the tops of my cheekbones with a fluffy domed brush (the MAC 224), but next time I plan to try a light dusting all over the face. I bet it would also look lovely lightly dusted beneath the eyes and provide a subtle brightening effect.
I feels weightless on my skin, meaning I don’t feel it at all. The grains are so finely milled that they practically melt into the pores. LOVE THIS! MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A, or maybe even an A+ (if it were $18 instead of $28)

Based on what I’ve seen, I will definitely Glisten Up. I love the way Jouer handled the shimmer with these products, and I think it all fits the brand well. What we have here is glitter that my 30-something self feels comfortable in. Bravo, Jouer!
I need a green beer right away…
I don’t know about you, but I’m plum tuckered out. This week kicked my butt. I blame the time change. Seriously! I know it was only an hour, but I’ve felt off all week long. Well, I guess it’s been longer than that. 🙂
I’m looking forward to this weekend. I’ve been thinking about dusting off my knittin’ needles and takin’ a stab at a new hat.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Tabs is just adorable!
He’s all about the accessories.
Wow Karen. You look absolutely flawless and radiant in these photos! Possibly the best I’ve ever seen you! Your additional makeup notes don’t mention what foundation you are wearing. Is that your natural skin or do you have base on? If the latter these photos have convinced me to go out and buy it ASAP haha! Also, where online can you buy jouer products? They look great!
Hi Lucie!
I have all that stuff listed here under “Face Makeup Products — When I Plan to Take Pictures”…

You can purchase Jouer online here:

I really like their powder eyeshadows and blushes. Oh, and be sure to check out the collections section under the makeup tab. Lots of pretty stuff there too!
Coral and Red gloss are very pretty!!!! and that neck piece is surely eye catching….
Tabs is looking cute with that CAP 🙂
Thanks! He’s all about the accessories.
Karen – you look gorgeous in those pics!
I have entirely too much lip gloss, but I’m very intrigued by the powder. My skin could use some help faking a glow.
You and me both! Have you ever tried MAC Strobe Cream? It’s really great for getting a glowy look.
Whoaaa, you are seriously glowing in these photos!!! I was like “nahh, don’t need another powder highlighter” until I saw the pics of you and did a double take. I clearly need to look into this stuff, ’cause even though you are very pretty as is, these have to be the loveliest pics of you I’ve ever seen! Like glowy flawless skin off the charts!
Hi Jennifer,
I’ve got a handful of powder highlighters too, and by far this is one of my faves at the moment!
This looks GORGEOUS on you. You just glow! 🙂
Thanks, Catherine! Happy Friday. 🙂
Tabs looks adorable in that hat! 🙂
He likes to work his accessories! 😀
The products look really nice. I like how the lipgloss looks a bit “stunted” – very cute.
Aww Tabs is giving you strong competition for “who looks better in knitted hats” category 🙂 Love your blouse by the way – makes me really want Spring right now. Unfortunately it has started to snow again here today after a few days of almost-ice-free grounds. Feels like Narnia.
I think Tabs would be the winner in that category, hands down. He really knows how to work his accessories. 😉
Is the snow still coming down? It’s been raining buckets out here.
Ow mai Gawd,
Karen really, you look divine! So is Tabs by the way, makes me seriously consider having a little cat again.
You should do it! Kitties make everything better. 🙂
ahhhh, I want that powder! I’m gonna hop over to their website…
love your top also!
I am kindasortaobsessed with that powder. I wore it out last night (I used a MAC 217 to sprinkle a little beneath my eyes and on top of my cheekbones) and it adds a nice glow that’s subtle but still noticeable!
BTW, I *almost* made to McDonald’s to get a Shamrock Shake. I ended up passing because it was late and I was cold, LOL!
I checked out their website and they have free shipping, which sealed the deal, lol. so I caved and ordered the powder! I hope it works for me!
Happy Friday!
Awesome! Good to know about the free shipping. I was poking around there this morning put this in my cart: Instant Chic Collection. We’ll see how long I can resist, haha!
nice! love those colors. the cream tint looks especially nice.
The glosses looked quite pigmented on your lips, but not in the swatch picture.
I thought you wore additional lip color or at least lined your lips with liner, but when I checked your additional make-up, didn’t find either one.
Are you wearing one of them?
Nope, just bare lips!
i took a much needed half day off from work yesterday. i had a doc’s appt, then i hit the mall. gap/old navy/banana republic has a 30% off sale going on and i walked out with some work clothes.
i went to sephora too – got a contour brush and first aid repair cream (love!)
oh my — this is the answer to my makeup need – the glistening brightening powder. i have been in search of a non glitterbomb-y highlighter … and this might be it! the price is not exactly bad (well rested by bare escentuals is more expensive) …. im def getting this!
Hi Nina,
Sounds like a fun day. Did you end up meeting your bestie?
I think you’d really like the powder. I wore it last night (tapped it beneath my eyes and on my upper cheekbones) and it added a really subtle sparkle!
ohhh im liking this powder more and more, the more you speak of it! 🙂
no i went alone … her youngest kiddo was sick. it was a nice little solo shopping trip! 🙂
The brightening powder looks amazing on you!
Thanks! Happy Friday. 🙂
You look fabulous! I can get behind glitter, as you know (even though I’ll be leaving 30-something behind tomorrow). 🙂
I really need to look into this Jouer line. I just pray the glosses do not wreck my overly sensitive lips!
Allow me to join the masses in saying goodness, girl, you are so beautiful! These pics make me wanna get some of that highlighter myself.
And might I add, Tabs is indeed looking awfully snazzy. He looks like a Parisian painter 🙂
Definitely going to look into the highlighting powder! I have been using a MAC CCB to highlight the tops of my cheeks but with summer coming I want to switch to a powder version…I was looking at Nars Albatross but this looks like it would be better for my tan skin.
I’ve been meaning to try Jouer for awhile now but the cost has prevented me. Unfortunately the glosses would have zero color on my lips, but the powder is another story alltogether!
You look amazing and uber glowy, by the way!
Thaa hat is CUUUUTE, gurl! Did you make it?
ooh I gots ta try the glisten brightening powder now! I am checking out other Jouer products to order after I just saw your review of Organza e/s. Any other must-have products?
