Mango overload! Mango overload! Help! I have no idea what to do with the four ripe mangoes that have been sitting in my kitchen since Easter, all delicious-looking and filled with juice. Salsa? Marinade? A smoothie, perhaps?

Around this time every year, I get a craving for two things: 1) mangoes and 2) shimmery, sheer glosses like Pensée (a shimmery coral) and Pink Peony (a shimmer pink). And what do they all have in common? One word: juice.
The luscious, juicy glosses are two of the three Glossimers from this summer’s Les Fleurs D’Été de Chanel collection, and I think they look delicious on tanned skin. Delicious, yes, but not altogether surprising, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
I, on the other hand, am a little surprised that Chanel chose to go such a traditional route with these when they repeatedly broke so much ground last year with products like the Khakis, Riva and this spring’s Ombres Perlees Palette.
It’s like the boy girl who cried wolf Chanel. After so many funky twists, I expected another one from this summer’s glosses.

Swatches of Pink Peony (left) and Pensée (right)

Pink Peony

Pensée
Like all Chanel Glossimers, both of these are unscented, unflavored and feel thick and non-sticky on my lips. I feel that some of the shades in the line are a little drying, and those I layer on top of a moisturizing lip balm, but I haven’t felt the need to do that with either of these.
PRICE: $28.50 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Chanel counters and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (they’re quite expensive and not entirely original, but I do still like them a lot)
No, really, what should I do with these mangoes?

Should I cut them up and freeze them for smoothies? Or I could try my hand at making mango ice cream. If you have any ideas or mango-rific recipes, please share. I’d love to hear your ideas.
I hope the rest of your hump day went well. 🙂 What was the highlight of your day?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Oooh I love eating mangoes just by themselves. So good. I could eat these in 2 days flat!
I love to make a mango salad dressing. Puree mango with some orange juice, a bit of honey, fresh ginger, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, salt & pepper. It’s amazing on a spinach salad.
Ooh Mangoes! I like to slice them n eat them raw 🙂 Soooo tasty! 🙂
Me too!
With coconut rice and/or coconut rice pudding, of course! ^^
Ooo, I vote for Rae’s option. Yum!!!
love the glosses! gotta try them 🙂
about mango recipe, try making a no-bake, mango-graham cake. <3

Served cold. Enjoy!
:):)
Great review! I want to own at least one makeup item from Chanel.
I love mangoes! Just take a day, shave the outer layer,(lol) and eat them as is!
I hope the sheerness of these isn’t a trend. I loved the more pigmented ones!
Mmmm, I vote mango salsa. Oh, or mango sorbet. Full of mango-y goodness nut none of the fat of ice cream.
I really love mango salsa. I don’t know how to make it, but google does. And i would slather it on everything!
i know this post is about the glossimers, but i just can’t get over how flawless your skin looks!
as for mangoes, i like to eat them as is. i slice squares into the fruit and then turn it inside out :). i also like them dried… oh, and i LOVE green mangoes with bagoong. YUM!
dang, now i want some!
Yes please do a detailed post on your foundation routine (plus skincare)!!!!! You look FLAWLESS!
an ex bf’s ecuadorian mom used to fry up sliced mango and sliced banana. it’s pretty good for a snack. 🙂
Love me some mangos. Whatever you do I am sure that it will be delish.
Highlight of the day – going on a 3 mile hike at Phoenix Lake and then getting some sushi!
Mango bread! Oh man it is awesome. Lots of recipes floating around
mm, these are a bit too sheer for my taste, even though I do like how juicy they look xD btw what are you wearing for face makeup? You look amazingly fresh and glowy here!
And about the mangoes, I like eating them with frozen yogurt 🙂 Or an ice cream that tastes like fro yo! Like that Haagen Dazs tart (forget the name of the flavor) one.
hi karen ! you can make mango lassi, mango pureed with yogurt and sugar, it’s amazing ! you should see mangoes in my country, they are green and red :((( at least we have grapes 😀
anyway, nice glosses ! take care
The glosses are too sheer for my taste so I’ll think I’ll pass on them.
Loving both the Pink Peony and Pensée gloss.
For the mangoes, I would recommend using two for smoothies and the other two for mochi-making. Mochi filled with mango ice cream is delicious.
Also, did the Chanel glosses go up in price? I remember they used to cost $26 instead of $28.50.
Hey karen!
I really love this look! What foundation and highlighter did you use?
I eat mangos just as. I am a fiend for them! But do try the mango ice cream! So yummy!
In Thailand, this state of mango (I mean yellow ones) we will eat with sticky rice – special sticky rice that has coconut topping – Yummy!
I think you might find this menu in some Thai restaurants there
🙂
Here I searched for you

Enjoy
Those glosses are adorable! I’ve had summer gloss envy for a few weeks now, and I might need to check those out.
Mango-wise, I love making fish tacos (pre-veggie days) and adding fesh mango in them. If you like the sweet-savoury thing.. Although it won’t help you use up all of them!
Mangos are my favorite thing about Spring. I would put them in the refrigerator and eat them one by one in a few days. I love a mango in the morning for breakfast and then as a snack later. And mangos with vanilla ice cream for dessert! Cant forget that!
those glossimers look so pretty! 🙂
mangos — i had some last tuesday (those kind were 2 for a dollar, holla!) …
i usually just eat them by myself. if i have the time, ill make a smoothie or a freeze.
the freeze is easy — cut up the mangos, add some non fat cream or half and half and a little sugar (or agave syrup) … mix up. put in a stainless steel container and freeze for half a day.
serve in little cups with some more fresh mango on top. yum!
Hi Nina,
I usually like to eat them au natural too, but I’ve been too lazy to cut them open, and now they’re all ripe at the same time! Thank you for the recipes. The freeze sounds easy and yummy.
lol im lazy to cut them open too. i peel them and eat them over the sink LOL!
the freeze is easy and yummy — and another twist to it is to use some condensed milk – that way – you dont need the sugar and the sweetness is just right. 🙂
Make some mango salsa – just go on foodnetwork or epicurious.com or some mango chutney – Being from Florida – Mangos free well – just cut up & put in ziplock – make sure to wash your hands well as sometimes you can break out from the sap especially if you have allergies.
I was at SAKS yesterday – I really liked the other gloss much better – did you try it? Aurore – love it. I put it over red lipstick & over the new Sari-Dore and I bought both. Plus its Friends & Family at SAKS – 10% off cosmetics.
Hi G,
Thanks for the Glossimer/Lipstick combo rec. I’ll have to try it. 🙂
Cut the mango into chunks, dice up some tomato, a jalapeno pepper, onion and cilantro, delicious over fish!
Thanks, Bridget. 🙂
I vote for salsa…mangoes and strawberries or pineapples or both + cilantro, red onion, seeded jalapeno and fresh squeezed lime juice + pinch of garlic powder and chili powder to round out the flavors. One of my all time favorite meals involved this salsa on top of a fresh caught (hubs used to spearfish when we lived in SoCal) Halibut marinated in Italian dressing and grilled over a beach campfire!!!!! Mmmmmm – happy taste bud memories. See what these pretty Chanel glosses did to me….now I am pining away for summers long gone.
That fresh caught halibut meal sounds delicious. Add a couple of Coronas… YUM!
I have Pink Peony and Aurore from this collection and love them both. I have seriously been putting Pink Peony over all kinds of pink lipsticks and it makes everything look fabulous!!
You look gorg in these pics!
Hi Michelle!
Funny you should mention that — I was going to do some Pink Peony/pink lipstick experiments today. 🙂
Smoothies! Mango smoothies!
What do you like to put in your smoothies, Chris?
LOVE mangos. smoothies, salsa, it’s all good. for something different, sometimes i cut them up into fine little slices (kinda like those bagged carrots) and i eat them with chilled rice noodles, black sesame seeds, a dash of sesame oil (or hot pepper oil), lime and cilantro. if you wanna be totally fancy, throw some shredded chicken up on it. one of my fav warm weather lunches right there.
Your noodle recipe sounds like it would be delicious on a hot day. 🙂
Oooh, Karen, try a lassi! If you’ve never had one in an Indian restaurant, it’s a perfectly quenching drink of blended yogurt and mango. Sometimes they’re made with rose water for a little extra floral taste, but a classic mango lassi goes far. It’s my go-to refresher after a killer workout at the gym!
I love mango lassi drinks. I hope I can find a good recipe!
Mango Margaritas!!! Aow!!!
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/michael-chiarello/mango-margarita-recipe/index.html
NOM! 😀
Our favorite local restaurant makes a delicious Mango Mojito. Just a thought……. 🙂
Oh, that sounds delicious! Love me a good mojito.
Mango-Lime sorbet! This one’s my favorite, from Deborah Madison’s “Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone”. http://www.moderateoven.com/?p=788
That looks so good. I actually have an ice cream maker too! Hmmm…
Those glosses are shimmerific! 🙂
Oh, I vote for mango salsa, hands down! If you’re in the mood for that, give this a try (green jalapenos work perfectly, too)!
http://www.ming.com/foodandwine/recipes/season-1/spicy-mango-salsa.htm
One of my friends swears by ripe mango with a squeeze of lime but I’m definitely a salsa fan!
You would loooove the shimmer!
Kind of off topic, but are you a MAC Mineralize Skinfinish fan? I’ve rediscovered my stash of highlighters, blushes and eyeshadows and have been really into them lately because of the shimmer/glitter. 🙂
I’ve never tried them but I’ll check them out – shimmer and summer are like, PB&J. Or maybe fruit and Nutella? 🙂
I LOVE mangos… they’re literally my favorite fruit. But I’ve recently become horribly allergic to them, so I have no ideas 🙁 Everyone else’s sound super yummy though… especially sorbet.
I am not allergic to those glosses, however. SO PRETTY. I’m loving Pensée!
Woah, I’d never leave ripe, fat mangoes like that sitting around uneaten! I just peel them and eat them over the sink (because I know the juice will just dribble all over my chin and also down my arms).
Now I want a smoothie…. *is trying to think of a viable excuse to go get a smoothie* >>… lol yeah, I think saving them for smoothies is a good idea 🙂
I nth admiration for your skin lately! Also, I love love your top! Where did you get it??
Mango smoothies are the best! My mom used to make them when i was younger. I think she used mango, honey, milk, vanilla ice cream, and ice. For the health conscious, I suppose you could substitute the ice cream with yogurt, but that would just take the deliciousness out of it!
Mango with shrimp paste!
Or a mango lassi:
cut up mango (1/2 cup to 1 cup)
non fat milk (to texture you like)
1/2 cup nonfat greek yogurt
1 packet spelnda or stevia
blenda and serve! It’s a healthy protein drink that tastes like dessert!
I love mangoes yet, alas, I am severely allergic so I avoid them at all costs. It breaks my heart the most when I’m at a restaurant and I’m in the mood for seafood and it comes with a mango salsa or relish. The combination is fantastic and writing about it is making my mouth water (it’s lunch time), so I say make a delicious seafood dish with them and mix them into a delicious salsa with fresh jalapeños, garlic, tomatoes, etc. And if you have any leftover mangoes, I would looks up some delicious Mexican dessert. They do wonders with mangoes! 🙂
Hm, I’m not sure if you like sweet stuff but here’s my mother’s South Indian style Mango Chutney recipe:
– Peel and cut 2 mangoes into cubes
– Slice 1 big onion into long strips
– Fry mustard seeds in some oil
– When the seeds start to pop (you’ll hear a sound, or smell it a bit), add in onions
– Once the onions get a bit soft, add the mangoes in
– Add water
Depending on how soft your mangoes are, you could start with 1/2 a cup first and see if the mangoes get softer. If the mangoes are really ripe, they will break apart when you press it with the spoon. That’s the kind of texture you want for your chutney. If it’s not, then you need to add more water, reduce the heat a little, and let the mangoes cook.
– Once you’ve added the water, add tamarind paste (usually about 1 tablespoon), 1 teaspoon turmeric, some chili powder or cayenne pepper (if you want it spicy), 1 tablespoon of brown sugar (this depends on how sweet your mangoes are – if they are sweet, 1 teaspoon is good enough, just for the brownish colour, otherwise you might have to put a bit more to neutralize the mango’s sour taste)
– Stir well, taste it to see if its up to your standards 😉
If it is, switch off the stove and cool it before serving. Otherwise reduce the heat and let it cook for awhile more. This is great with naan bread, wholewheat tortillas, or crisps.
I LOVE mangoes! I would just eat them as they are and those four would be finished in a day or two. Those mango margaritas and the mango chutney sound pretty good too.
Now I am craving some mango salsa from Whole Foods. It is delicious. Karen, love the lipglosses. What blush are you wearing? Looks Great!!!!
are those champagne mangoes?! I haven’t had mangoes in a long while. I used to be a hater until my boyfriend convinced me otherwise. what did you end up doing with them? did you try for the mango ice cream? I’ve never tried anything homemade like that before. I’ve always just cut them up and eaten them after being converted. 😛
