The very first time I walked up to a MAC eyeshadow display case, my eyes rolled back in my head. Not because of eyeshadow ecstasy, mind you; this was years ago, and at the time I didn’t know Soft Brown from chocolate delight. No, looking down at those rows of sleek, little pots, as beads of perspiration formed on my brow, I was utterly and completely overwhelmed.
What I could have used back then was something like the new MAC Pro Palette Eye Shadows X 2 ($25 each US; $30 in Canada). Designed to take the guesswork out of choosing which eyeshadows to pair by teaming two coordinating colors together in a cute lil’ palette (and eliminating what was a major source of makeup stress for me way back when), these eight duos dance onto MAC counters with the new Colourizations Collection August 4 in North America, and internationally, some time next month.
MAC calls them, “daring pairings,” and from the six palettes I’ve seen so far, some of the couplings, like the orange and navy in Double Feature 8, appear more adventurous than others (even if it isn’t that risky, I still really like Double Feature 5’s pairing of that frosty peach and the duochrome brown with green pearl).

The pans are rumored to have been magnetized. Potentially very cool, right? Well, in the name of makeup science, I managed to pry one out this afternoon.
Let’s see… It did not go well.
With a safety pin and elbow grease, I wrestled out the orange shade from Double Feature 8, badly damaging it in the process. In hindsight, I probably could have thought of a more elegant means of extraction, but I didn’t see any magnets. These suckers are glued in their pans. To be sure, I placed a refrigerator magnet in the circle where the pans rest. I didn’t feel anything, except along the edges of the palette, because they do have a magnetized lock.
The shadows vary widely in terms of pigment, ranging from super sheer to opaque, and the textures appear to vary, too. Most of the shades here feel soft and smooth to me (OMG! Double Feature 4’s ochre shade feels like BUTTAH!), although a few of the matte pans and satins look a little chalky on my skin.
I dig these duos a lot. The colors combos look fun, and they take the guesswork out of doing my eye makeup in the morning. My favorite way to work ’em? Applying each palette’s lighter shade on my lid, blending out the edges (with either a finger or brush), and lining my upper and lower lash lines with the darker shade. They’re easy like that. 🙂

Why is eating outside so darn fun?
It’s nice and warm here tonight, so El Hub and I decided to have our dinner al fresco on the deck. Tonight Chef Tabs prepared a nice grilled snapper with a tomato and caper sauce, and wild rice and steamed spinach with lemon. 🙂
When was the last time you had a meal outside? Was it a picnic, a barbeque, or maybe lunch at a restaurant with outdoor seating?

LOOOVE the colour combos! it’s too bad the orange from double feature 8 is so sheer, though. that said, i REALLY like #1 & 3!
I’m not sure any of the duos are for me because there isn’t a single palette where i love BOTH of the colors. I love almost one color from each one and am “eh” on the other. Oh, well, saves me $25 I guess.
And your dinner looks delcious! I don’t eat outside because I live in south Texas and it’s too dang hot here to do much of anything outside!

Overall the colors are very pretty!
We had our dinner out in the yard with another family on Sunday evening because my daughter didn’t want to come home to have dinner!
I’m loving the look of these duos. Some really unique color combos. #8 looks beautiful.
I’m really picky about where I eat outside. I went to lunch with a friend in downtown Santa Rosa on Saturday and they had tables outside, but it’s so noisy with all the traffic going by!

Oh Karen, I cannot tell you how jealous I am of your al fresco dinner. Winter is kicking off here – it’s SO FREAKING COLD. The thermometer next to the door tells me it’s 10 degrees! (50F – Man, that sounds hot!) My poor little car got covered in frost overnight!

This idea is cool. but I would only want one of the colors, not both. There isn’t a duo of which I’d want both colors.
I live in a 5 floor walkup, so i rarely go outside to eat. But last night I made baked seasoned tiliapia, mashed potatoes, and stewed tomatoes and spinach to celebrate the boyfriend returning from Vermont!
Sounds delish, Chris! How do you make your stewed tomatoes?
I put chopped tomatoes in a pot with some olive oil and spices, cook it for a little bit, then add a little water. I then let that simmer down.
even if im having a bowl of cereal, i almost always join the hubs outside on the deck to nom. there’s just something relaxing about doing that!
im liking pairs 4 and 8. ill def check these out!
Oh, totally. I love to hear all the birds singing at dusk — that’s my favorite part. Tabs likes to join us when we’re out there, but we have to watch him like a hawk because he’s often tempted to jump on the railings (they’re very high). Do your kittehs come out to the deck with you and the hubs?
LOL (aka Napoleon) and Mojo the dog like to sit out on the porch with us. we tend to limit that since we’re also feeding an outdoor cat. just to be safe.
Does this mean there’s another kitty member of the family on the horizon? 🙂

I’m suprised how much I’m turned off by products that don’t have names! It that weird? Is anyone else with me on this. Its not like they have to be clever names. I reach for my nyx black all the time. But I really don’t use my inglot or MUFE stuff as often as I’d like. I think its because I like to be able to think to myself I’m wearing UD grafitti and mac swimming today. Also because I have a hard time remembering the numbers I frequently buy dupes because I can look at something and think oh I don’t need this its looks the same as UD baked. But I don’t rememer oh this looks the same as MUFE 12. Anyone else with me on this. I wish mac gave these names. Sorry for the wall of post.

I LOVE Double Feature 7, but I gotta say, does the fuschia shade really look good on anyone? As hott as it is, I just can’t rock it… are these actual shades already in existence at MAC, or did they come out with new ones? If they are old, when are we gonna know the names?
I really wish these were individual. I like a lot of the shades, but not their partner.

Btw, your dinner looks fab! The last time we ate outside was on Sunday – backyard picnic with the neighbors before the parade and fireworks. We don’t get a lot of nice, summery weather, so gathering out on a deck or patio (or table in the backyard) is pretty common. In the cooler months, we “picnic” on a blanket in the living room about once a week. It’s a hit with the boys. 🙂
#3 is calling my name! I just might give up my MAC eye shadow virginity to it (been too intimidated/overwhelmed last few times I managed to sneak a peek at the MAC counter).. 🙂

i loveee #5! i guess you could always take out the circles once you’ve finished the eyeshadow (in 10 years lol) and replace them with the eyeshadow plates meant for the quad storage thing. just an idea!
