As much as I wish I could re-allocate the part of my brain currently storing the lyrics to Bell Biv Devoe’s Do Me! to something more … practical, like, I dunno, how to fix a running toilet or perform an emergency tooth extraction without anesthetics in the least painful way possible (could come in handy in the zombie apocalypse), I can’t. Those lyrics are tattooed on my brain.
And every time one of my friends tells me that she’s going on a date, I say the same thing every time…
“Got a date, can’t be late, hay!”
LOL! I’ve been doin’ it for years, but it feels like time for a change. The next time someone texts/calls/emails to share their date plans, instead of quoting BBD, I’m gonna say, “Physicians Formula pH Matchmaker pH Powered Lip Gloss, hay!”

Released for spring, pH Matchmaker gloss ($9.95; available in two shades, Light Pink and Pink) is moody, and by that I mean it works like a mood ring, except in this case the product reacts to light and your natural pH level to create a color customized for you.
Now, that by itself isn’t revolutionary. Mood ring-like glosses have been around forever, but I can’t remember the last time I saw one as kissable and totally date-worthy as this.
It starts out clear on my lips but transforms within a minute or two into a vibrant fuchsia.
Cool! It even has cute bits of silver glitter, but not so much that it feels gritty in the least. Just enough for a little sparkle.

And that’s not even the best part. Two or three hours in, after the gloss has mostly faded away, it leaves behind a beautiful semi-matte pink stain, perfect for kisses. SO pretty, and when you or your crush lean in, you won’t have to worry about any goopy leftover gloss on your lips — just a kissable flush of gorgeous pink.
Other notables…
- Packaging: Super cute! I think the tube looks stylish and girly, and I like the touches Physicians Formula added to ease application, like the mirror on the side and the short, stubby brush (very easy to control). There’s even one of those LED lights in the cap, which I guess could be kind of useful if you’re ever applying your gloss in the dark, or looking for your car keys. Just don’t forget to turn it off (I’ve left mine on overnight a few times).
- Texture: Thick, and a little bit sticky. I probably wouldn’t wear it out on a windy day, because it would definitely catch my hair.
- Flavor and scent: No scent to speak of, but it does have a barely-there vanilla flavor I like.
- Wear time: I get about two hours, which is significantly less than the 10 hours promised in the marketing. Kind of a bummer, but the stain it leaves behind on my lips, which lasts an extra hour or two, more than makes up for it.
- Finish: Super shiny and glossy at first, it then fades to a semi-matte pink stain.

Last-minute Sephora run?
It’s the last few hours of the 15% off sale for Sephora Beauty Insiders. I’m pretty stocked up on my essentials, but part of me feels like I should go check just in case, LOL!
I don’t know… We’ll see how my resolve holds up. My beauty willpower is at its lowest around this time on Fridays.

Hahaha I love stuff that sticks in your head like that. Mine are weird office references like the classic “that’s what she said” or more obscure ones like “NDB” for “no big deal”. People must think I’m actually dyslexic unless they know the references.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that makes excuses to go to sephora. Lol. The closest one is an hour away and I’m like welllll…I need a new dress so might as well stop in sephora since I’m in the neighborhood 😉

I’ve tried several color-adjusting type glosses and they make my lips bright pink and weird,but this one looks nice. I think I will give it a try.
Arrrgh, I thought the Sephora sale was over on the 5th so I didn’t check in today. Oh well, another one will come along soon enough and I found some great 10$ ‘the Balm’ kits (I like their shadows). That being said, I like this gloss on you although I have reservations about the sticky factor.

it was a beautiful day today! Got a pedi and went to the movies – saw Wrath of the Titans, which I enjoyed.
Tomorrow I fly to Dalla for a week for business – the weather wam and very humd with scattered thunderstorms. I’m not used to that!
i got this lip gloss on a whim after seeing a review – I really love it! I think what I like best is that the color stays the same after the shine is gone, so that I don’t lose anything when I decide to use my regular chapstick
