I repeat, DON’T EVEN GO THERE! — because if you do, you will fall down a rabbit hole of endlessly arranging and rearranging your dream palette of eyeshadows, blushes, bronzers and powders, and before you know it, two hours will have passed, and your cat will be giving you the death stare because you haven’t taken him out for his walk yet.

Earlier this month NARS did something very cool. They introduced two NARS branded empty palettes (a large one and a small one) that are fillable with whatever your makeup-loving heart desires.
Now, the idea of the empty palettes isn’t new. Other ones exist, like the Z palette, which you can get at Ulta for $20 (versus $14 and $18 for these two), but these have the NARS logo, and they’re also joined by a new line of NARS refill pans.
“Wait — did you say refill pans, K?”
Yeah, I sure did. 🙂 There are eyeshadow singles, eyeshadow duos, blushes, face powders and bronzers in 64 total shades, which doesn’t encompass the entire NARS collection from top to bottom (how awesome would that be, though?), but it does include a lot of NARS classic shades like Orgasm Blush and Galapagos Eyeshadow. As they don’t have the brand’s regular packaging, they’re also a little less expensive than usual. For example, the eyeshadow single refills are $18 each, instead of the regular single price of $25 (the ones with the regular NARS packaging).
You could also depot your existing NARS pans and fill the palettes that way, but I haven’t tried that yet… I’ll definitely get around to it one of these days.
Oh! — and there are also some pre-made palettes available that are filled with recs by NARS makeup artists, which is cool, because I love seeing what other people put in their palettes, too.

I really like the idea of customizable palettes, and the fact that some cult shades now exist in refill format for a lower price is great! I can fill some existing magnetic palettes with them and save some money 😉
I love that the refills are lower priced! I am not a fan of Nars packaging to begin with (it is just a magnet for dirt and glitter and everything else!). I was actually playing around with the palettes on the website the other day.

So let me see if I get this straight – these are empty pans for re-fills of shadows that I might already own in the NARS singles or duo palettes? But I’d have to buy the shadows again – separately – to fill the whole megillah?
Personally I would love to de-pot all the singles I have – especially those wet/dry ones that are like sticky little square dominoes in my storage case. Not anytime soon though!
I had a bunch of these NARS-ees out the other day to create my own YSL Black Addiction couture palette (yup, I did it – but I now know why most females would CLICK the purchase button instead). And I swear the NARS containers are hazardous, especially for tile floors.
Anywho, anyway, I can depot Bobbi Brown shadows like clicking an ice cube out of a tray but evidently François likes things to hard way!!
Lol! Great post! I was just on the site last night and “played” for a while to figure out my dream palette 🙂 It’s great that it’s lower priced, but I wanted to get it filled up! I’ll have to hold off on this one to make my dream travel palette….

Very cool, and definitely not lacking in size. You could put a whole lot of faves in those cases. 🙂 I think it’s a great idea, especially for people who are just getting into Nars. There’s something to be said for having all your favorite color products in one place!

Lol I can only imagine how tempting and addictive that part of the site might be! I’d probably end up on there for hours planning out my dream palette. I’m so excited they finally decided to make pro pans
I looove this idea. I rarely gravitate towards my NARS eyeshadows or blushes because the packaging makes them dificult to use. I can’t easily find the shades I want, the packaging is always dirty no matter what I do… That’s the reason I don’t haver a big NARS collection even if I love the shades and their quality.

I really like the idea of a NARS palette. I just wish it was in an easy to maintain the cleanliness material. Have to admit, the schmutzes would drive me crazy. Regular NARS packaging drives me crazy. I’m constantly wiping fingerprints away on all my makeup cases.

I really like how big the large palette is- it’s larger than an extra large z palette and $10 cheaper. I think I may order it for my makeup geek eyeshadows, but do you think pans from other companies will work too? Thanks!
I just got the Makeup forever metal palette in XL and it works great! Thinking of getting Nars next since my current palette is getting to full
