Oh, fudge!
Oops! There goes another quarter into the beauty product-related swear jar (I don’t actually have one of those, but sometimes I think I should).
Seriously, Oribe, why’d you have to make me fall in love with your Dry Texturizing Spray when you knew the last thing I needed in my life right now was another bank-breaking hairstyling product?
How rude!

BAM! Bright light, aaaaaand, we’re here. 🙂
It’s mid August, 2014.
I’m just about to haul my cookies out of the salon after getting my roots touched up when I realize that I need (“need,” air quotes) a small travel-size bottle of dry shampoo to bring with me on my upcoming trip to LA (it was still upcoming at the time), so I ask mini Stevie Nicks (which is my inside voice nickname for the gal who works behind the front desk counter, on account of the witchy, floaty outfits she’s always wearing) for a recommendation. She points me to Oribe’s Dry Texturizing spray with the following caveat: “You gotta be down with grit. If you want smooth and silky, you’ll need something else.”
Since I am down with grit (I think), I grab the small 2.2-oz. Purse Size for $21.50.
As I hand mini Stevie Nicks my credit card and the bottle, I hear my penny-pinching mother’s voice in my head. “Hooey, put that down! Let’s go to Rite Aid instead and get an extra large bottle of Aqua Net for $2.”

I do my best to ignore her. “I cannot get addicted to this,” I tell myself, walking out the door. If the little bottle is $21, I don’t even want to think about how much the big bottle costs (side note: it’s $42).
Sadly for my wallet, it’s love at first spray.
Fast forward to today…
Volcanic volume at the roots, tremendous texture, legendary lift, and UV filters
This stuff is kinda magical. It does a little bit of everything, too, and it does it all well.
- As a dry shampoo — I use Dry Texturizing spray between washes to absorb oil and refresh my janky-smelling roots. Like the other Oribe products I’ve tried, it smells elegant and expensive, like a light yet complex jasmine floral perfume.
- As a finishing spray — Whenever I curl my hair, I spray Dry Texturizing on the middle sections and the ends for shine, hold, bounce and texture.
- As a root lifter — When I spray it on my roots, ERMAHGOD! The volume is volcanic. Its lift is the stuff of legends. I’m talking big frickin’ hair, man.
On top of everything else, it also includes UV filters to protect color-treated hair against sun damage.

No powdery residue, stickiness or hairspray crunchiness
Like Wonder Woman’s jet, this stuff is invisible…once you work it into your hair. It’s virtually weightless and undetectable.
I mean, I can see the spray as it leaves the bottle, and the mist shoots out forcefully and evenly, as an expensive hair styling product should, but once it’s in the strands, it’s almost as if there’s nothing there.

It doesn’t leave behind a powdery residue either, or a sticky or crunchy film, but yet it’s, like, DOING stuff.
Sure, there’s a slight roughness to the texture of the strands (“the grit,” as mini Stevie Nicks put it), but it’s not a problem.
When I use this, I feel like my hair looks magazine caliber (this is how I justify the price). 🙂
PRICE: $21.50 for a 2.2-oz. Purse Size bottle, and $42 for an 8.5-oz. Full Size Bottle
AVAILABILITY: Available now at salons and online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I got the travel size of this in my Nina Garcia Quarterly box. I love it too. It’s so great at making my third (or fourth, let’s be honest) day hair big again. I adore the smell as well. Sigh. I didn’t realize it was so expensive.
Hi Katie,
Sometimes I try to make it fifth day hair. Shh…
Have you tried any other Oribe products? The shampoos and conditioners are AMAZING.
I believe the same Ms. Stevie Nicks sold me one too and I am now, too and addict! My plan to help with funding such an extravagant purchase is to buy it from the birchbox website and use 20% off codes and points;)
This stuff though. It’s seriously amazing! My hair feel so thick and nice. I can get 3-4 days between washing (which saves $ on shampoo/conditioner, right?!) The grit doesn’t bother me, I love that I can fluff up the roots every now and then and my hair just stays there like there is memory foam in it!
Haha! That mini Stevie Nicks gets around!
Have you tried any of the items from the Gold Lust Line? I just got a couple travel samples of the shampoo and conditioner and I’m pretty excited about it. 🙂
Yes!! The ladies at bluemercury gave me two generous-sized samples of the Gold Lust repair and restore conditioner and the transformative masque. I can’t wait to try them…next time I need to wash my hair (!)
Ahhh! Good luck with *not* falling in love. LOL! If you can try to get a sample of the Supershine Hair Cream (BOMB). I’m saving for a full-size bottle of that and the Dry Texturizing Spray.
Oh man, I’ve been wanting to try this forever but the price has put me off. I have a pixie cut though, so maaaaaybe the smaller bottle will last longer? Right? Right. I wonder how the product works on short hair though. Maybe it will give me the messy, undone pixie look I like without the crunchiness of gels or the greasiness of waxes & pomades?
It should roughly last you forever if you have a pixie cut. You’ll probably need very little to get a TON of lift and texture.
Don’t forget to try the Apres Waves Beach Spray too 😉 (Run, wallet, run!)
OMG. The addiction continues. We may have to start a support group soon.
Btw…have you seen Oribe’s demo of the Dry Texturizing Spray? Very quotable…watch it when you need pick-me-up 🙂
Is it the video on the website with the girl with the cute short hair? I kind of want that hair cut!
On Youtube, Oribe Hair Care channel, 3 year old video called Dry Texturizing Spray. I just rewatched it… “I just want you guys to see…how big big can go. It’s a little extreme. I don’t know that a lot of you would want to wear your hair like this, but it’s nice to have the option.” I’m pretty sure he uses an entire full-size can!
Ooh…I am definitely going to try this. I have an addiction to dry shampoo, so hopefully this will work AS well. Love your blog, btw. xo
ERMAHGOD! Why did I stop by your blog today .. lol. Now I’m going to have to go get this! Well, maybe I’ll try the small size first .. no need dropin’ $42 on something I may not like 🙂
But I know I’m gonna like it <3
Monica
Oh lord, I might need this. I have the tiny Apres Beach spray and love it. And I always am desiring bigger hair, so this is tempting!
Do it, girlfriend! You won’t regret it!
Everything Oribe makes is beyond phenomenal. His masks- I am in love and obsessed. The foundation and shine sprays are everything too. I cannot live without his products. Luckily, the salon I buy them in offer points for purchase kinda like Ulta but better ( or at least I pretend it’s a really good deal to justify using products so stupid expensive ) they’re just so good.
Hi Amanda,
NICE! Can you recommend a shine spray that you like? I need to add one of those to my wish list. 🙂
Happy Friday!
Someday, I want to try dry shampoo! I wouldn’t say no to some extra volume either, and weightlessness sounds rather nice… 😉
They will change your life! I can’t live without mine, especially when I’m traveling for work. I like not having to deal with my hair; it’s one less thing to have to mess with!
I’d like to give it a try but that price… I have been using Loreal Volumizing spray and I really like it and it’s only $5.
Oh nice. Gotta love a good drugstore deal. Can you use it as a dry shampoo?
That sounds good! I hear so many great things about Oribe! If only we had the brand here…
I wish you had access to it! It is AMAZING! Happy Friday to you. Doing anything fun this weekend?
I wash my hair daily and I STILL want this now. Why, Karen, why must you do this to me? HAHA! You know volume for my lashes and volume for my roots is my kryptonite. Luckily my memory is failing so I can hope to forget reading about it. 🙂
NOOOOO! Must not forget. You need it in your life. Seriously, this is epic!
HAHA! The Hubs and I both forgot it was our anniversary today if that’s any indication of my memory. It’s so nice when you’re married to the right person, so you’re not hurting each other’s feelings when the synapses don’t fire! 🙂
LOL! We’re not quite there yet. We’re in the “we should buy a piece of furniture in lieu of gifts” stage of our marriage. Soon, though!
Happy anniversary, btw. How many years?
Shhhh…. I don’t want to get addicted to this either. Everything I hear about it is the bee’s knees. It’s been on my wishlist for a long while!
Hola, Karen and Tabs! Question…when you use on your roots, is your hair wet ot dry? If dry, can you give a little detail about how to apply and style. I want/need/covet volcanic volume!
Have heard SO much about Oribe…and considering I have a closet full of hair products, shocking that I havent tried anything from them. I do however need LESS volume if anything but I know that many many of their products have amazing reviews. I’m curious JUST HOW MUCH volume I can get now. I’ll probably look like Marge ( Simpson i.e)!
I have to try this out. Been hearing so much about it on Blogs and Youtube this year!
Have you tried Bumble & Bumble’s Thickening Dry Spun Finish Spray? It smells amazing, but sadly is still just as expensive – $29.00 for 4 oz. and $16 for .95 oz. Or, you could also try Toni & Guy’s Rough Texturiser. I swear these sorts of sprays contain microscopic wagon wheels or anchors that hug the hair and each other to get that oomph! It’s magical and life changing!
Any idea how to use the bottle? I bought one and it doesn’t spray!
Hi Karen! Did she mention what the alternate Oribe product was if you’re not “down with the grit”? ?
HELP ANYONE OUT THEIR WITH FINE THIN HAIR ? I am in need of major volume and thickening with my straight brownish blonde hair. I see posts from about two years ago about Oribe and see it is super expensive but I am desperate as used to have thick tresses now definitely thinning lots of severe stress for many years and being on prescription meds for a while def did not help. if anyone can relate would really appreciate. my hair tends to tangle very badly and I finally got on sulfate free shampoos when I finally treated myself to a hair appt. the stuff is great no more knots but its definitely great for all types of hair and its color proof the name and its definitely has made my hair silkier but I really need volume any suggestions as I about to invest in Oribe hope it works.
thnx to anyone who can help.
