To all my ladies with naturally smooth, gorgeous feet 
, this post is NOT for you. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve still got mad love (and envy) for your photogenic tootsies, but the rest of us living in cracked heel hell, well, we’re the ones who need help.
After spending the winter ignoring everything around my ankles, I’ve ended up with two very cracked heels and a few square feet of scaly skin. My feet, as my eighth-grade self might describe them, look “hella gross,” and it’s time for action. I’ve started testing Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme ($9 for a 4.34 oz. tube). I sure hope it helps me turn my tootsies around in time for sandal season.
One of Burt’s three foot creams, it’s been out for a while, but this is the first time I’ve given it a try. The company says it prevents and protects dry, cracked or rough skin with deeply penetrating emollient botanical oils.
Sounds good, right?
Well, it gets fantastic ratings on the Burt’s Bees website ( 
97% recommendation rate!), so I couldn’t wait to give it a try.
After one week with this thick, greasy cream, I wouldn’t say my feet are foot fetish worthy yet, but I do think I’m back to being able to wear flip-flops without feeling self-conscious. My heels aren’t as cracked or dry as they were, and there’s a definite decline in skin scaliness around the tops of my feet and toes. My toesies are soft again, 🙂 just like the tummy of my favorite tabby, or post-Britney Kevin Federline.
A hefty 4.34 oz. tube of the stuff costs just $9 at Target… What do ya think of the yellow packaging? Not bad, right? I dig the old-timey illustrations of coconut halves.
Notice the black bar on the tube that says 99.4% natural? Burt’s Bees states the percentage of natural ingredients on all of their products. Right now, they’ve got about 150 items for face, hair and body, and half of them are 100% natural. This happens to be one of the ones that’s just a tiny shade shy of 100%, but the company says they’ll have this one and the others to 100% natural soon.
But back to this minor miracle in a tube. The star ingredient in Coconut Foot Creme is — yup, you guessed it — coconut oil. Coconut oil, which comes out of the white part of the flesh after it’s pressed, not only smells delicious, but is also a natural, fatty moisturizer. Solid at room temperature, it melts right into the skin. Its consistency makes it ideal for emulsifying, or binding, ingredients in natural beauty products.
Along with coconut oil, Burt added peppermint and rosemary oils to the product, and they’re a toe-rific delight.
That’s not what I expected though. The thought of coconut and mint mixed grossed me out at first, but it works. The coconut smells natural and fresh, not like that sugary sweet synthetic coconut stuff in teeny bopper body splashes.
There is one big thing I wish I could change about this cream: “grease is the word.”
Heavy in plant-based oils, it feels very, very greasy — so greasy that it takes a solid five minutes of vigorous massaging per foot to rub it in!
Consequently it’s not the most practical cream in the world for busy daytime use. On more than one occasion I’ve slipped clean out of my flip-flops, oops!
Now I’m slathering it on under a pair of socks right before bed to trap it in like podiatric magic.
I’m nuts over this stuff, ha ha! It works fast, smells great and made my feet respectable once more. Big ups, Burt, for creating this natural, affordable beauty gem. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

The only thing that seems to work on my cracked heels is aveeno daily moisturizing lotion. Not greasy at all!

lol my feet are a lost cause. they’re blistered and cracked from fencing and my doctor told me to stop putting lotion on my feet b/c I’m in socks and tennis shoes so much that it’s better if they’re less moisturized. boo I miss pampering my feet, cocount+mint sounds strangely yummy right now

it’s been very on and off lol. I started in fifth grade and then walked out for a couple years and then came back and walked out for another couple of years…. bad habit but I’ve always stayed at the same studio and made some really good friends. But not counting all the on/off time before I’ve been doing it for about a year and a half consistently now. I like it 🙂 plus it’s one of the few sports I don’t completely fail at

For cracked heels, I mix aveeno bath oil with some warm water and soak my feet in it for about 15-20 mins. There’s an instant result of soft, smooth skin that lasts for about a week (for me). 🙂

i love burt’s bees! i recently bought their radiance night creme-karen, you should definitely get into it! the strong smell made me pretty hesitant, but when i wake up in the morning with beautful, soft skin, i forget all about that! anyways, thanks for this post. i have a tube of this that has been sitting in the back of my bathroom drawer-i got it as a gift and i’ve rarely, if ever, used it. thanks for opening my eyes to it’s greatness…can’t wait to give it a whirl after my next self-done pedi 🙂

I have that hand creme. I like it — moisturizing without being too greasy to type right after I apply — but the scent is a bit too much for me.
Have you tried the Pomegranate Lip Balm? Love it. Moisturizing oils, hint of color, and lovely scent.
Where can I buy this? I like the idea of putting it on at night and wearing socks for some heavy duty moisturizing action! I wonder if it would work on my dry knuckles from the winter…

I personally have this and I would say this works great! I use Ped Egg to get rid of dead skin first, and then soak my feet in hot water, and use this creme afterward!
The Ped Egg fascinates me! Actually, any sort of foot cheese grater thingy intrigues me, LOL!
I’ll have to try this! Speaking of coconut oil…don’t eat food containing it or palm oil. The solid at room temp thing is killer on the arteries!
I use Neutrogena’s Norwegian formula foot cream. I know you’re supposed to put socks on after using it, but I can’t bring myself to do it. I hate wearing socks in bed. D:
What is with all the preoccupation with natural ingredients? the difference between a natural and synthetic ingredient is often just a shade of difference and I have trouble seeing how something natural is just categorically better for you. plenty of “natural” things are carcinogenic or poisonous or what have you.

My mom has recommended this foot creme to me, too. She loves it! She does the same thing: puts it on at bedtime and then wears socks to bed. I think that after hearing her AND your glowing reviews, I’m gonna have to get some!
Also, don’t fear the Ped Egg! I talked it up so much when I first got it that even one of my manly guy friends went out and bought one… don’t know if I’m supposed to tell anyone that, though… 🙂
Ooooh sounds like just the thing for my feet. I got scolded when I got a pedicure – the technician told me that the drugstore was just around the corner and I’d better stop there for a good moisturizer before I left! I felt like a negligent school kid!
I love Burt’s Bees! I agree though, this particular item is extremely greasy. I also end up lathering it on at night and wearing socks to bed. Thankfully, it’s worth it! You might also want to check out Neutrogena Cracked Hell Cream. It’s not nearly as greasy and could easily be worn during the day. It’s also a miracle worker. From one cracked heel queen to another I wish you the best of luck!

I love this stuff too. I purchased a gift set at DSW a few years back that came with a nice big pumice stone and a pair of yellow ankle socks with bees embroidered on the ankle. I’ve never used this during the day – too greasy. But I use it over night (with the cute yellow socks), or I slather some on before I work out. Works wonders on dry feet.

Im currently using a Shea Butter cream from Bath & Body Works that I got during their semi annual sale last year. It lasts forever and works too. Its my last tube though so when I run out, ill check this Burts Bees baby out.
I only use foot cream at night before bed though. During the day, I just slather on some of whatever lotion it is im using on my heels and feet. Lately, its been Aveeno Stress Relief bec of the itchies I got last week.
My feet are generally ok …. but what feet cannot use coconut? 🙂
You are so lucky! If I ignore mine they turn into ogre feet in a hot second, LOL!
I find though when I wear flip flops too often the heels get scraggly …. iono if its a rubber rxn or what.
Ive just made it a habit to apply lotion on my feet whenever I lotion the rest of me too.
Dont ask me bout my toe nails though — they are so badly neglected. 😀
I love this foot cream! It is definitely at its best if you put it on at night and put some socks on. My feet looks and feel brand new in the morning, especially with a new coat of polish on them as well. Though it is a bit greasy, it works nicely for a foot rub while putting it out.
I highly recommend this one.

Sounds awesome. I’ve been really tempted to try and use pure coconut oil as a makeup remover/facial moisturizer… maybe I’ll have to try it on my feets, as well!

I use Burt’s Bee’s Honey and Bilberry foot cream, and it’s awesome! I don’t find it greasy at all. The soles of my feet get dry and crack easily, and a few days of this cream always does the trick.
Best advice I’ve ever gotten for dry, cracked tootsies: get those cheapy Stridex swipes for teenage boys with acne! Swipe ’em over your heels before bed – the salycilic (sp?) acid exfoliates without you having to do all the work with a pumice stone – then follow up with the Burt’s Bees and put some socks on. Only took a few days of that for my feet to start looking beach-ready again!
I absolutely LOVE this stuff! I’ve been using it for years and it always helps me get rid of my dry winter feet.
I loove anything Burt’s Bees and even though I don’t have dry, cracked heels (sorry, dont hate me lol) I wanna try this foot lotion now..it got me at coconut! But I used to have really bad feet and what I started doing was using a pumice stone every single day after which I would slather on some really thick, moisturizing body butter and put a pair of socks in. Within a week my feet were super silky and now I just do that all the time! Oh and if that doesn’t work or u just don’t have the time/patience for the pumice stone, my sister swears by the Dr. Scholl’s stuff for dry, cracked feet apparently it works miracles!

I’m beginning to fall in love with this brand. I find a lot of their products to be just as effective as Kiehl’s or Origins, which I love but don’t always have the budget to purchase. Good work, Burt!

On occasion, I use cocoa butter and baby oil …then throw on some socks! This sounds like a much desirable routine!! Gotta give a try! Thanks girl…

Karen, I just purchased this cream at Ulta 2 days ago so I was uber excited that you reviewed this! I LoVe all things coconut so I had to try it but was immediately put off by its thick greasiness. I continue to use it anyway but wasn’t sure how long this would last, now that I saw your review I’m going to give it a few weeks. I am also falling madly in love with this line! My esthetician suggested I try the Cream Cleanser for my face (she swears by it) and a month later I can honestly say that I’m hooked. I saw results within days and my skin is just super clean and smooth all day now :o)

I have been testing a travel size of the Burt’s Bees Peppermint foot creme, and it’s also greasy but sooooo moisturizing. The peppermint also makes your feet feel tingly and fresh, which is a nice sensation. I am so impressed by how soft my feet have gotten. My feet were nasty there for a second and I’m so glad to have gotten it all under control. I just finished the travel size, so maybe it’s time to try the Coconut before I invest in a big one.
