LORAC Tie Dye For Lip Gloss in Shocking Twist
In college I had a classmate who wore tie-dye jam band concert tees to chemistry class EVERY SINGLE DAY. I’d sit there trying to take notes with my four-color clicky pen (mind you, these were the days when pagers were “cutting edge”), but the shirt would call to me from the across time/space. “Karen,” it would whisper, “look over here. Stare into my magic swirls…”
When I would finally give in and steal a glance, I’d get trapped! — unable to look away.
Like I was being sucked into the swirls!
All this without ever having taken a bite of shirt dude’s “special” brownies, which he kindly offered to me before class on many occasions.
It’s all very The Yellow Wallpaper, I know, and by the end of the year I wound up with a full-blown case of tie-dye trauma!
But you know what they say, right? Time heals all wounds. And, now, thanks to the LORAC Tie Dye For Lip Gloss Collection ($25 for a set of five tubes), I can finally appreciate multi-colored swirls again. 🙂
The new limited edition holiday set comes with five shimmery glosses, each with three different colors swirling together in each tube. There’s Flaming Mix (a red), Shocking Twist (a fuchsia), Social Mixer (a pale pink), Berry Blender (a purple) and In the Mix (a nude).
The idea is just a gimmick, of course, because using them mixes the colors together.
MAC did something similar with the Tricolor Lipglasses back in 2008’s Sugarsweet, and Estee Lauder tried it with the Pure Color Swirl Glosses in 2007’s Chocolate Decadence, but I think it’s still a pretty cool effect.
A caption on the side of the box indicates some interesting ingredients, like acai berry, pomegranate, grape seed, apricot oil and coconut oil (to moisturize)…
But the ingredient list doesn’t mention apricot oil, acai berry or pomegranate.
Weird, right? The three of them are listed in the caption on the box but not within the list of ingredients.
Ingredient mysteries aside, these are some seriously pigmented glosses. They remind me of MAC Lipglasses — shiny and non-drying with a smooth texture and a light vanilla taste and scent. These, however, aren’t sticky on the lips, which could either be a pro or a con, depending on your preference (not being sticky, they don’t last quite as long on my lips).

Okay, that guy was sooo funny. What made me crazy (besides his shirts) was the fact that he was barely conscious half the time, but he still managed to get A’s in class. Life is not fair, LOL!
Anywho, since you like red glosses… have you tried MAC Viva Glam Cyndi or MAC Russian Lipglasses? Both are fabulously red glosses. 😀

Isn’t it funny that you remember crazy characters from your schooldays and funny moments but you wonder like hmm that person probably doesn’t even remember me- at least that’s how I feel sometimes! 😛 Oh well, they are like tiny little memories in your head that can still make you laugh like on the spot 🙂 and Yes! I love Viva Glam Cyndi and the lipstick – haven’t tried Russian though, will try it out soon though!

UD’s cream isn’t as subtle. The glitter’s chunkier and more obvious. By Candlelight blends better and looks more natural on the skin, too.

just a noet: I use my By Candlelight every single day since it came out with the Warm and Cozy collection (winter 2009), and it doesnt even look like i’ve dented it. I would say don’t worry too much about it running out!

Had to laugh at your reference to Chemistry class–one of the Chemistry instructors where I work has a tie-dye lab coat. There is also a biology instructor that wears a tie dye t-shirt every Friday. He gets extremely frustrated with me for not participating in “Tie Dye” Friday.
The LORAC shades look yummy but that’s as far I go with tie dye!
A tie dye coat would probably give me headache, LOL! Or maybe I’d start seeing 3-D patterns pop out like in those posters that were popular in the early ’90s.

Ah, the 4-color pen. Random fact: I used only green pen through my entire HS and college careers. An odd thing to be known for, but when I run into people from school, they’ll often ask if I’m still writing in green pen (I’m not). 🙂
That is weird about the ingredients. Maybe something in there is “like” acai, pomegranate and apricot oil. Or maybe not. 😉

Remember when jelly pens first hit the scene, and how weird it was to get pens in funky colors like purple, pink and teal? This was, of course, during the hey day of pagers…

Of course, back in the day, I had a great memory and never needed to take notes or to highlight, so the green ink was for writing notes to my friends, signing yearbooks and taking tests. Which reminds me, have you gone back and read some of your yearbooks lately? It’s quite a trip! I know it’s not 20 years for you yet, but I think enough time has passed that you’ll be like “yikes” too. 🙂

LOL I went to Oberlin so I definitely understand the hippies in tie dye (also, some of them eschewed wearing shoes). In fact, MY chemistry lab partner first semester of freshman year wore a whole lot of tie dye (and had really long hair). Who knew so many hippies flocked to the hard sciences? Also, oh my God, I haven’t thought about “The Yellow Wallpaper” in years. Wow.
