Wearing Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Chai
Ugh. Projectile sports. You know, the ones that involve airborne objects like baseballs? I’m just so bad at them. Whenever I see something flying at me at high speed my first instinct is to run away, but if there were a projectile sport involving lipsticks and perhaps cute uniforms, well, that I might play. 🙂
Especially if the lippies were as pigmented as the new Smashbox Be Legendary Lipsticks ($19 each).
The new line of 20 bold lipsticks in matte and creamy finishes recently launched at Sephora stores, on Smashbox counters and also online, and I’ve been wearing three of the creamy shades for about a week — Chai (a caramel nude), Fig (a red grape) and Vivid Violet (a bold berry).
So far, I am totally impressed; I think they’re great!
How great? — well, how about Oreo cookies dipped in milk? Yeah, that great.

I only need one layer for full, flawless coverage with these because of how pigmented and smooth they are, and they don’t leave any patchy spots or settle into my fine lines. I’m serious. Lips wearing these bad boys belong on the pages of a glossy magazine.
They have a very faint MAC-esque vanilla flavor and scent that lasts as long as I have them on. I like it, but if you prefer unscented lip products, it’s just something to keep in mind. As for wear time, I get about four hours between meals.
I’m loving these so much right now and can’t wait to try more colors, especially the corals and pinks.

2012: Day 2
So how was your very first Monday of the year? Good, I hope. Did you make it through unscathed?
Oh, I don’t know if I’ve mentioned yet, but one of my many New Year’s resolutions is to evolve my clothing style…
I haven’t exactly figured out what I want it to evolve toward yet, but I do know that I want to replace all of the pre-teen skater boy pieces in my closet (sadly, there’s a LOT of that going on).
I’ve been looking online for new designers and stumbled onto a gal named Abi Ferrin. She makes these really cute, comfy-looking dresses and tunics with kind of a cool Cali girl vibe.

Cute, yeah? Her stuff’s a little pricey, so I’m looking around for sales. I spotted a few pieces at Nordstrom… Still looking for more.
Who are some of the designers you’re currently hooked on? Please share.
Have a great night, and I’ll see you again soon. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’m crazy about everything chai including lipsticks. Those dresses are class!
Me too. Have you ever had Big Train Chai? It comes powdered (just add water and milk) and tastes SOOOO good!
The lipsticks are very pretty! Love the dresses too.
Are you a Smashbox fan, Gio?
I love your style evolution resolution (see what I did there)! I’d love to do that as well but with a student’s time and budget… Le sigh.
Hee, hee! So clever, Anna. 🙂
I know how it is to be a busy student on a budget. Have you ever shopped with at Nordstrom Rack online? It’s like the deeply discounted sale section of Nordstrom. They have items sometimes up to 75% off… I get $10 from there all the time.
Do you really wear Fig on the second photo? To me it looks exactly like Vivid Violet … But I like all three lipsticks!
Hi Melanie,
Yup, I really did wear Fig in the second photo. The difference between the two is very nuanced.
i love the outfit on the right!
Yeah, me too! I love the shoes, especially!
I love the look you had on the first picture. Chai looks great on you!
Thanks, girlfriend! How are you and your cat doing these days?
I heard about these and I really need to get my hands on one or three of them!
Hi JaNelle,
I hope you do! They are great lipsticks. 🙂
Happy Tuesday!
Fig and Chai look super gorgeous! 🙂
its day 2 of me not sweating the small stuff. it takes a bit of getting used to!
I know what you mean. I tend to stress out over the little things. Trying to free myself of it, though!
I read somewhere that it takes 21 days to develop a new habit… after today you’re only 19 days away! 🙂
Happy New Year!! Chai looks great on you – so much nicer than in the tube/swatch! Hey, congrats on your style upgrade. I can’t help you there, unless you go through a sweats and sneakers phase. 🙂 I’m still working on making some resolutions but so far, so good about being back at work (after my 16 day vacation).
Has it really been 16 days? I feel like I haven’t spoken to you in ages.
Hey, I could always use recs for cute sneakers! 🙂
I know! You’d think that being on vacation would mean MORE time to do things. It’s amazing how much less I actually accomplished. 🙁
HAHA! I could definitely help you out there. Nike has program where you can custom design your sneakers on their site, which is actually really cool. I ordered some lovely pink shocks once (that got a lot of compliments). 🙂
Pretty Chai indeed!
Love that color!
Happy New Year! Those lipsticks sound lovely. I love all three on you!
Buying new clothes and reinventing your style sounds like fun! More fun than my resolutions of getting in shape!
Hi Tracy!
I have getting in shape on my list too. I’m about six pounds away from my goal weight and am in the home stretch… it’s not easy with a yummy See’s Candies store less than 5 minutes away, eek!
Are you revamping your diet? Or are you exercising?
You look so cute and fresh-faced in these pictures! Fig and Chai look SO nice on you!
Thanks, Sunny! 🙂 Hope you’re having a very nice Tuesday!
Absolutely love Vivid Violet on you!
Do you think you might try it, Corallista?
We don’t have Smashbox is my country yet otherwise would have definitely tried these!
Ooh! Pretties. I might have to get me one o’ thems. I especially love Fig!
I hear you on the evolving clothing style thing. Have you heard of Stylebook? It’s an app that helps you organize your closet and put outfits together… I’ve had it on my ipod for at least a year, and I haven’t put any pictures of my own clothing in it yet! sigh. Someday, I swear it will be SO useful.
Hi Shannon,
No, I haven’t heard of it. It sounds really useful! I wonder what it would do with all the pre-teen boy surfer shirts in my closet, LOL!
Oooooo dresses! I’m a huge fan of effortless (looking) dresses! Dresses are so much easier to wear than skirt/pant/top combos and can often look a whole lot more sophistocated. I just got my latest shipment of dresses from ASOS yesterday and am loving them! Check their website out because they are having a great sale on right now, like 70% off. And also, go you for kicking your wardrobes butt into gear 🙂
I hear ya, Evelyn. I wasn’t really a dress girl until recently, but now I love them. They’re just so much easier, and if even I gain/lose a few pounds, I can still wear the stretchy ones!
Thanks for the heads up on the ASOS sale. I’ll check it out.
I already love Smashbox lipsticks, and this formula is actually cheaper than the normal one, so I’m intrigued. None of the colors you have are my type, though, so I’m hoping I fall in love with one of the others. They look great, opacity and finish wise.
Hi Quinctia,
What shades are you looking at? I really want to check out some pink and coral colors next.
