Well herald the trumpets and release the Kraken! Do my eyes deceive me? I’ve been waiting all my life (okay, more like five years) for a silicone-free drugstore frizz tamer, and it looks like one’s finally here!
L’Oreal’s new $9 EverSleek Frizz Taming Creme Serum is one of seven products in the new L’Oreal EverSleek Sulfate-Free Smoothing System of shampoos, conditioners and stylers released this spring. The serum, which is designed to be applied to wet or dry hair, is supposed to relax rumpled tresses and tame flyaways, making hair frizz-free for up to 48 hours.
However, my hair wasn’t the first thing I thought about the first time I heard about EverSleek. My nose was, and that’s because I’ve had some bad scent-sory experiences with L’Oreal hair products in the past. Some were just too heavily perfumed for my sensitive schnoz, but as it turns out, EverSleek’s fragrance is a relatively restrained light floral and amber that I find warm and comforting. I actually like it a lot.
I also like that L’Oreal didn’t test the stuff on animals, nor does it contain any animal products, so for that it gets two paws up 
from Tabs.
As for how well the serum fights frizz, well, that depends. I feel like I have to use a LOT (like an unreasonable amount), but when I do it gets the job done. The bottle recommends using one or two pumps for a full head of hair, but I’ve had to use five or six on my medium-length locks. You might need more or less, depending on your hair, but ladies with hair longer than mine could easily go through one of these small bottles (1.9 oz) in a week.
I think the product also works substantially better when I apply it to wet hair before blow drying or air drying. Applied to dry hair, I barely notice a thing (still lots of frizz and flyaway hairs). Wet or dry, I think it does a good job of retaining volume without weighing down my hair, even when I use a lot.
If your hair gets just a tad frizzy, and you don’t want to risk using something on it that could diminish your volume, EverSleek Frizz Taming Creme Serum might be worth a try.

I saw the picture of tabs while I was watching the news, and his stance reminded me of Klepto the cat, but without stolen goods in his mouth. hehe

Please be leery of L’Oreal products. MOST of their products DO contain ingredients that ARE tested on animals. I personally witnessed somebody ask on the official L’Oreal facebook fanpage if “Any of their products contain ingredients that were not animal safe” to which a L’Oreal rep replied that “Cosmetic companies testing on animals is a thing of the past”- which you know as well as I do, is a bold-faced lie. I have since decided that I would not be using any of their products until they are more forthcoming about what goes into them.

thats the thing w/ anti frizz stuff – the bottle says apply to dry or damp hair and then style — but if you do that, you get fly aways!
ive always used it on hair that has air dried for a few minutes … i get better results!
im curious about that anti frizz serum …. the one i currently use is double the price of that. i like it well enough: it cuts hair drying time in half, and it really does tame the frizzies. but if i can get the same thing at half the price, why not? 🙂
I’m with Kaitlyn on that one, a few years I completely stopped buying products by L’Oreal and other animal testing cosmetics company (also have moral issues with the brand, but that’s another topic). Although in that case it probably means this specific product wasn’t tested, and it’s great news to see the brand going in that direction!

TGIF! I usually don’t have any frizz woes but with the dry weather (and the Hubs constantly forgetting to use dryer sheets) my hair looks like the Statue of Liberty after I put on my shirt in the morning. It’s too funny. I’ll bet it would even spark in the dark! On that note, have a great weekend!! 🙂
Good to know it’s just a light floral scent – my last experience with L’Oreal’s hair products didn’t go down too well either.
Even if I don’t get frizzy hair, my baby strands does tend to stand vertically…do you think this serum will work? I generally need to spray hair spray to make them stay put, but don’t like the feel of my hair after.

Cassie–Okay, so I haven’t tried this serum, but I have the same issue with rebellious baby strands of hair. Have you tried Elnett Satin hairspray? It smells like an old lady, and it seems a bit strong when you put it on, but after about 20 minutes your hair is ridiculously touchable and stays in place. I guess there’s a reason it’s a holy grail product in the fashion industry. Anyway–I have shorter hair and it has definitely solved my baby hair issue–I just spray a bit in my fingers and run it through the strands. Maybe give it a try?
Can I ask why silicone is an issue? I think of silicone oils as my miracle ingredient, I can still remember the day I first used them in my hair – and that was over 20 years ago!
Though I can see them being less desirable if you’re going for all natural products the loreal formulation clearing isn’t avoiding other offenders there :P.
Silicone can create build up on your scalp (I heard Pantene shampoos are a major offender), and you need to have a sodium laurel sulfate-based shampoo to remove it. SLS is a pretty harsh chemical, so if you avoid those products but still use products containing silicone you end up with buildup and sometimes waxy-feeling hair (at least in my case). 🙂

I’ve been leaving my hair curly/wavy and I don’t have to worry about the frizz anymore! It’s been life changing for me. No more fighting with my hair! Yay!

Still, I really like the sound of a silicone-free serum, seeing as I haven’t been able to wear anything in my hair since going ‘cone free! And the scent does sound love– AGHHH why am I talking myself into another product?!

I got a little too excited seeing this being reviewed because I was really curious about this product and really thought it would help my flyaways. I have so many flyaways and they are so frustrating. The slightest breeze makes me look like I just survived a tornado, which was such a problem when I was living close to the beach down in So Cal. Now that I’m back in the south bay it’s not as bad but they still need to be tamed. The amount of product you had to use sounds crazy and would mean that I’d probably end up using half the bottle on my long hair for just one day. I think I’m going to skip this and go back to the drawing board. There’s got to be something that will tame my wild hair and not weigh it down…or maybe I should just shave my head. lol

Happy to hear I’m not the only one whose nose makes the decision in hair care products. About a year and a half ago, I ended up switching to organic hair because the scent of my herbal essences was making me sick throughout the day. Unfortunately, it’s both artificial scents and a lot of florals, period, so I run around smelling everything before I buy it these days! 😀
I got this product about a week ago because I have very thick, coarse hair, and it’s just below the shoulders. If I let my hair air dry, it curls up and is extremely frizzy. With all that said, here’s my opinion.
First, this stuff does smell good.
It takes a lot of product for my hair as well. Much more than 2 pumps and each pump gives a good amount of product.
If I use it on wet or damp hair and let it air dry, it’s still frizzy. The only way this worked for me is by putting it in my hair while it was damp, and still blow drying it, no frizz and it made my hair shinier.
I should also add that both of the above results were after using the coordinating conditioner called Reparative Smoothing Conditioner.
Truth be told, I get the same results with Pantene products and some biosilk after blow drying.
Loreal DO TESTS ON ANIMALS their indigrents . same for their Body shop, they clame to be animal friendly .
