I have a love/hate relationship with Sonia Kashuk’s new Diamond in the Brush Kabuki Brush ($12.99). In the love corner, it couldn’t be any cuter. I mean, just look at that sparkly handle, and I think the brush head is all kinds of fabulous.
But just like the similarly blingy brushes in the Prepping for the Party Lip & Eye Palette ($19.99), I don’t know if this one’s very well constructed. As a matter of fact, the bottom fell off the first time I used it.
Um…what’s up with that?
And then there’s the overall attention to detail, which just seems to be lacking here. Despite the blinding bling, I can’t help but notice the stray bits of glue peeking out from between the gaps where the metal bands wrap around the handle.
Annoying — because I like this limited edition brush’s swagger, size and how hefty it feels in my hand. It’s like a bigger, wider, slightly fluffier version of Sonia’s classic Flat Top Brush but with a shorter handle. The soft bristles feel good, too, neither scratching nor shedding, and the head applies face powder, blush and bronzer perfectly.
My issues with the brush are isolated to its handle, but that’s, ya know, a rather important part.
Over the past few years, I’ve loved many Sonia Kashuk brushes and still use them regularly. Some are among my favorite makeup tools, but these quality control issues are giving me pause. Even so, if you don’t mind potentially having to glue this brush back together and can overlook its imperfections, this could be a great brush to have around.

Hi Karen, I hear what you are saying about the quality! I have a few Sonia Kashuk brushes. I swear by the blush brush and eyeshadow brushes but some of the foundation/bronzer brushes have fallen a little flat for me. Even so, they are always cute-looking 🙂
It’s such a bling-bling pretty brush..I wish they had paid a little attention to the details…guess I am not buying this one 🙁
Hmm.. I love multi-use brushes and a little glitter never hurt, but it’s pretty disappointing that it’s falling apart on you. I need more brushed but maybe I’ll stick with ecotools. Have you ever tried them? If you have, what do you think? I need an entire brush overhaul.
it seems like SK LE brushes are falling into the same trap that MAC SE brushes have … flimsy, bad QC and altogether not a great buy.
i love my SK brushes … but i havent bought any of the limited edition ones. i dont think i will … ill stay with what works!
I’m really surprised at the lack of attention to detail with this brush. Maybe they were rushing to get it out and that’s why they failed to focus on quality. 🙁 I can’t find this brand in Canada anyway, so even if it was incredible, I’d have trouble tracking it down. At least this is one item off my list.
