I had a Pavlovian response to these Biore Makeup Removing Towelettes ($8 for 30 wipes) when I spotted them at the drugstore the other day… I saw the words “with Green Tea” on the packaging and reflexively reached for the box.
I thought, “Gee, I like green tea.” Sounds like a match made in heaven.
After checking myself and making sure I wasn’t just thinking about getting them because they contain green tea — I had just run out of my MAC Wipes — I placed them in my cart.
The cleansing rinse-free makeup wipes are also, according to Biore, supposed to be able to handle waterproof mascara. Full of hope, I thought, “We shall see.”
First, the good stuff…which right there tells ya that there’s a flip side to this (sorry!), LOVE the green tea scent. I find it refreshing, especially coupled with the feel of the soft cottony wipes.
To their credit, the wipes feel great, both during and after using them. No thick or sticky residues left behind on my neck or face, either, so major points for that.
Unfortunately, they lose points with me for efficiency. It takes two wipes and a few minutes to remove a full face of non-waterproof/long-wearing makeup, and three wipes (and even more minutes) if I’m wearing waterproof stuff. That’s not awful, considering the price, but it’s not fantastic either. With MAC and Kirkland Wipes, I usually need just one wipe, even to remove the toughest products.
And I’m not completely sold on these for people with sensitive and/or acne-prone skin. I have both, and after the first time I used these I felt a sting (ouch!). A few days later, I also noticed a couple of small pimples on my chin.
I’d been using my regular routine of face and makeup products at the time, so the wipes were the only new additions to the mix.
Unless I get a green tea craving I just can’t resist (which is entirely possible), I probably won’t be buying these again.

I got a pack of these over the summer, and I found they were alright (not stellar) at removing face-makeup, with a little bit of elbow grease, but utterly and completely useless for removing mascara. So I ended up just making them a post-workout wipe, when they wouldn’t have to actually do much removing…

Lately I’m loving Koh Gen Do wipes. I got them in a good bag and they did a cool job of removing my makeup.
I haven’t tried those. Are they scented?

I love my Kirkland wipes and don’t think I will ever live without them. I’ve had no success with any Biore products I’ve tried…sad day.
I also use the Kirkland wipes, and they are pretty awesome! Its great value for money, especially when I cut each wipe in half!
It’s a shame! Biore has one in Asia called Cleansing oil-in cotton wipes which remove everything, and I mean everything!
I use Almay wipes for my pro kit. Never had a problem with them.
Biore wipes always sting my skin, which isn’t particularly sensitive – thank God for Kirkland.
Hmmm…I won’t be trying these since even MAC wipes make my skin sting. Actually they stung for a while and then my skin seemed to get used to them. Weird. Idk if I should keep using something that makes my skin sting, but they smell so darn good!
I am actually in love with these – but only the Target brand knock off. I get a box of 60 for under $6 and although they don’t remove 100% of my makeup, they get the top layer of product/dirt off my face so my cleanser can be more effective. My skin isn’t sensitive in the least and I’m oily and acne prone but these wipes dry out my face. I’ve tried other brands but I keep going back to these. I’m sorry you didn’t like them, Karen!
Funny enough, Karen, I came across this review as I was using one of these wipes!
They’re not my favorite. They work fine. They sting my eyes, though. Guess my eyelids are extra sensitive. They’re a little drying and leave a bit of a residue, too.
I really love the Garnier Nutri-Pure Wipes. They’re awesome! They don’t irritate or dry my skin out at all. They’re a bit thin, and they don’t have a texture, but that doesn’t bother me.
So far, I only like Biore’s pore pack and shower cream. The facial products don’t feel good on my acne-prone skin. I usually use Oriflame makeup remover, just one wipe and no irritation.
i love the pond’s wipes – they are great at getting everything off. i’ll have to try the kirkland ones everyone’s been raving about though!
These are AWFUL for me. They sting my skin, and burn so badly I literally couldn’t open my eyes for an hour- even when I didn’t use them on my eyes. I thought “I might have to go get them professionally flushed.”
At least they smell good?
i haven’t tried these wipes, but i can tell you what other ones to avoid: yes to cucumbers. STING! they do clean rather well, but my skin felt burnt after just one wipe. i did finish them up, but used them instead for washing my feet off before i got in bed!!! i have not tried MAC wipes, but i am perfectly satisfied with the walmart equate wipes. they work well, don’t smell funny, don’t leave a residue, and don’t break me out. and they DON’T burn. well, i take that back. i wish walmart was not the store that sold them, i wish that particular wipe was available under a different name in my locally-owned store. that being said, the wipes are perfectly satisfactory and acceptably priced as well. xo
