Hey, lady, can I give you a lift?
Well…I never say yes to strangers trying to pick me up, but since you’re a pencil, and you’re offering to lift my brows, why not? 🙂
Please excuse my weird expression at the top of this post. I figure, life is too short to not laugh at yourself while applying $20 Instant Attitude Brow Lift by Too Faced, LOL!
Trust me, though, it gets better after the buffing…

A new addition to the Too Faced line, Instant Attitude launches with the rest of the spring 2014 collection tomorrow (Dec. 12). It’s a chubby eye pencil that comes in a matte vanilla shade designed to create the illusion of higher arches.
Apply it beneath your brow bone, or along the entire length of each brow like I’m doing here, and then buff down with a finger or brush (I used Too Faced’s Lid Brush from the fab Shadow Brushes Essential 3-Piece Set).
The result? Instantly lifted brows! Oh, yeah…

I actually do this trick all the time for pics and video. How does it work? Well, generally, applying lighter colors makes that part of the face look as if it’s closer to the viewer (think highlighting). Lighter colors beneath the brow, like with this pencil, bump up that area visually, giving it a bit of a lift.

You can do this with a bunch of different products, too, like concealers, eyeliners — anything, really — as long as it’s several shades lighter than your skin tone.
This new pencil from Too Faced is ideal for this on account of how easy it is to buff into the skin. I usually do this trick with a MAC Chromographic Pencil in NW25/NC30, which I have to swipe more than a few times to soften and remove any harsh lines.
Instant Attitude, by comparison, blends quicker. Swish, swish and done.

I also like how smooth and casual it looks sitting on my skin (like it ain’t no thing), and how it layers on top of creams and powders, sans drama. Paired with the new Bulletproof Brows, my fuzzy lil’ caterpillars look naturally together, but not overdone.

Oh, and multitaskers, check it: you can also use Instant Attitude as a brightener by applying it under the eye and in the inner corner, or as a highlighter on the cupid’s bow and the high points of the face.
Might be something to try if your skin tone is on the fair side, but if you’re tanned like me, it might work better as a highlighter than an under-eye brightener.

You know what? I like this pencil. A lot. But it would be nice to have a shade specifically for darker damsels and gents. If this were the middle of August, and I was rockin’ a summertime surf tan, I’m pretty sure it would look ashy…
If you do have darker skin, you might want to check out the MAC Chromographic Pencil I mentioned earlier. It’s a MAC Pro product, so you can’t buy it at a regular counter, but you can order it online or pick it up from a MAC Pro Store. It’s been one of my go-to products for years.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Will you be doing a post about the rest of your make up here? I’m really curious what you’re wearing on the eyes and lips here. 🙂
Hi Lauren,
I’m wearing mostly Too Faced!
Candy Bar Palette (eyes)
Peach Beach Blush (cheeks)
Bon Bon La Creme (lips)
I’m also wearing Dolce & Gabbana Liner in No. 8, which is a blue shade, smudged along the lower lash lines and on the water lines.
Thanks! 🙂
A subtle but still noticeable difference. I’ll have to look into this one…
Hi Sylvia,
Yeah, it’s cool! I love little touches like that.
I love my Anastasia Brow Duality but for some reason my waterproof mascara smudges onto it even if I set the pencil with powder. It’s the craziest thing! So I definitely need to check out this version by TF and compare the ingredients. There’s a makeup mystery to solve, people!
You’re on it, Detective Alison! 😀
This looks really nice, and I love Tabs!
