, you might think I’m a little crazy.
I just love masks! I think they’re great. Among my favorite skincare products, they’re probably second only to moisturizers, because of the skin benefits, but also because they’re a fun way to take a break from life.
Ya just put on your mask and chill for 15 minutes, and while I’m sitting there “in mask,” I totally forget about my chores and responsibilities. I don’t think about the dishes in the sink or vacuuming the stairs or doing the laundry. I’m totally preoccupied by the fact that I’m wearing a mask.
They’re a good way to tune out and focus on me. Plus, they’re an easy way to treat my skin.
I have masks from here to eternity, but I’m always looking for more (MOAR MASKS!). Up until recently, I had no idea there were so many different masks in the Beauty 360 line at CVS/pharmacy, and most of them are less than $8 (on sale the sheet masks are usually less than $4).
They’ve got sheet masks (sometimes called tissue masks), sleep masks, masks in tubes, masks in jars, soothing masks, smoothing masks, deep moisture masks, detoxifying masks, brightening masks, anti-wrinkle firming masks and masks just for your eyes, and they’re loaded with interesting ingredients like coffee and tomato extract, charcoal and green caviar.
They’re also affordable because, ya know, you’re at CVS, where you don’t expect to pay an arm and a leg, which means that if you’re already there getting emergency chocolate, wrapping paper or greeting cards, you can drop one into your basket without breaking the bank.
For the past couple weeks I’ve been using and liking some of their masks that come in tubes. I like that they’re gentle and don’t contain harsh, aggressive anti-aging compounds, just because I’ve been trying to avoid that kind of thing right now.
I also like that because they come in tubes, I can mix things up, like, if my combo skin feels thirsty, I’ll do the Hydrating Cool Calming Clay Mask all over my face except for my cheeks, where I’ll use the Brightening Radiance Mask, because I’ve got some uneven pigmentation and discoloration there.
Or, if my oily areas are even oilier than usual (the curse of combo skin), I’ll do the Detoxifying Purifying Mask on my forehead, nose and chin (it’s a good mild exfoliator), and then use either the Brightening mask or Hydrating mask everywhere else.
I’ll apply them and just sit and chill for 15 minutes while they work… Perhaps read Glamour or Allure, or watch makeup tutorials or Instagram kitten videos.
Then I’ll rinse them off, and apply moisturizer or a serum.
The nice-sized 4-oz. tube masks are regularly $7.99 each, and I think they’re a good deal for the price (they also go on sale a lot). My skin really likes them. I haven’t broken out once since I started using them, even though I haven’t been sleeping well, and when I rinse the masks off, my skin doesn’t feel tight, itchy or otherwise weird.
Another thing? Because these aren’t expensive, I like not feeling guilty when I want to use a little extra, which I usually do, in particular, with the Hydrating Cool Calming Clay Mask, which is my favorite one (I love aloe), whereas with more expensive masks I have to be very careful about how much I use.
This being winter, my skin has been drier and more sensitive than usual, but the Cool Calming mask helps. I use it before my regular moisturizer, and my skin feels less tight.

Hahaha! “Emergency chocolate”–love it! There’s a CVS going up about 10 miles from me in an area I’m in every few weeks, so as soon as it opens, I’ll be checking it out. I need some new masks so I was delighted to read your reviews. I generally use masks to control oiliness but this winter, I have dry, flaky patches & whiteheads. Lovely. And no, I haven’t startled anyone while wearing a mask; have to admit, that sounds like fun!
I hadn’t seen these before. I like to have a few of the sample sized ones hanging around my house for when I’m bored, like the foil packet freeman ones. Most of the time my skin is pretty cool with them, but every once in a while my skin freaks out with the sort of “enzyme” exfoliating masks. I do really love the masks at Lush, though, probably my all time favorites. But I’ll def have to check these out.
I am a CVS addict and will be checking these out!
It’s funny, but I used to love to use facial masks years ago, but then got too lazy. I recently got some samples at Ulta from Mario Badescu and thought I should go back to using them. My skin gets so dry and dehydrated. I just saw on Nordstrom’s site that Bobbi Brown is introducing three facial masks, one for detox, one to hydrate and I forget the third one. They are about $47, but there is a sample set of all three for $20. It may be worth checking out. I might even check out the CVS masks since I have a rewards card there.

I love face masks, but I can never justify spending maybe more than 30 dollars on one, so no glamglow for me 🙁 Maybe I will check these out at CVS…
I got the detoxifying purifying facial mask (tube) and the detoxifying purifying black facial mask (jar). Haven’t used either yet. But I just happened to go on google to find out what the difference is between the two masks. I am still not completely sure other than the apparent consistency (tube= thinner/ jar=very thick). I think the difference mighy be the 5 acids in the black mask, as I said I am not completely sure. Anyways, as I was on google the detoxifying purifying black facial mask has been compared to the glamglow supermud clearing treament. Some have even gone as calling it the “BEST GLAMGLOW DUPE”. Had to share this with you as a fellow glamglow lover who can’t justify spending $70 for a mask.
Wow I’ve gotta try it! What’s the harm right?

I have startled my husband and my daughter very much when wearing masks, especially sheet masks. But sadly the me-time aspect has disappeared, and I tend to slap them on while doing household chores at the moment…
Thanks for a great review. I have been wanting to try a sheet mask but didn’t want to pay big bucks. Years ago I used masks all the time and scared a sons playmate when I answered the door. Hmmmm, wonder if he has ever recovered from seeing a green faced Mommy answer the door.
Yes to face masks! Up until now I’ve always used creams, but I received a bunch of sheet masks from a friend over the holidays so now I want to get into those 🙂

I just bought the Hydrating Cool and Calming mask today and tried it tonight. Just no, so much no… It burned. Really burned, as in my eyes were tearing up. I have somewhat sensitive skin, but I’ve never reacted like this to anything before. I immediately washed it off and my skin was red and irritated. If you have sensitive skin, I highly recommend trying it out on a small area first and not just slathering it on like I did (as I’ve always done with clay masks).
