My brother gifted me a bottle of the Christian Louboutin nail polish and a Dior top coat. I typically wear Essie, OPI and the like, but every year I’m pretty sure he searches for the most expensive nail polish he can find. It’s a bit crazy ($50 for nail polish??) but also so thoughtful and generous.

This is the first year I didn’t receive any beauty gifts. I was glad I got needs rather than wants but I was a little sad because I thought for sure I’d get a lipstick. Lol
one of my favorite beauty-related gift this year was the hourglass ambient lighting blush palette! this also reminds me of your blogpost about the hourglass ambient lighting powders and how it felt like a lighting crew was following you around. xD

Another one was the fantastic bittersweet "farofa" (a traditional brazilian dish made with manioc flour) I made for our Christmas dinner. It is made with onions, raisins, apricots, parsley, walnuts, manioc flour and served with caramelized bananas. Really delicious as a turkey sidedish. Merry christmas and a joyful new year!!

My first real holiday with my boyfriend was so much fun. We decided to do a staycation for this holiday and stayed at the top hotel in New York (from a promo of course) and just stared at the Manhattan skyline all night long while eating our favorite food. Best loot I got for Christmas is getting all 3 objects of affection lipgloss set from Mac cosmetics. Anything that puts color on a pale face makes me beyond happy. I also got a beauty blender which has now been used and made me cry tears of joy for how easy it is now to put on my foundation. Hands aren’t always the best method to put on makeup which I wasn’t very familiar with in terms of texture and blending. Well anyways Happy New Years!

Hi karen, hope you had a great christmas. We built my son his own bedroom onto ours and decked him out with ninja turtles stuff (bed, bedding set, wall decor), plus he got lots of legos! And this was my baby girl’s first christmas (she is 6mo). Didn’t get any new makeup, but I’m waiting to splurge on some big items soon!
My brother got me “The Fault in Our Stars” movie for Christmas and let me tell you that is a REAL tear-jerker. So good and so real.

Those brushes are gorgeous! I tried making marshmallow popcorn over the holidays (after weeks of eyeing it on Pinterest) and it’s pretty amazing. Like a cross between rice crispy treats and popcorn. So good and so dangerous because it only takes a few minutes to make!

Hm, lately my boyfriend and I have enjoyed our evenings by watching That 70s Show on Netflix and sipping red wine or gin and tonics. My favorite gin is Hendrick’s – can’t get over how unique it tastes! Can’t go wrong with a cheap bottle of merlot or pinot noir though!

For my family’s Christmas dinner, I made macaroni and cheese and it was delicious!
So pretty! I love the gold!
We were able to spend Christmas with my sisters and brother and their families. We had a great time and the 6 hour trip each way was totally worth it. One of the presents was “Creative Cursing” and it was pretty hysterical. Some of the combinations were too bad for anyone to read out loud – and we had to make sure that my brother’s 7 year old twins were out of the room.

I got a bunch of really yummy Lush stuff this year and the Guerlain holiday meteorites!! I already preordered the spring ones. They are gorgeous (maybe my fav yet)! So, I was telling you about the things my son got me for Christmas in a previous comment on your other giveaway. Well, I used my manicure set and even put my Elegant Touch nails on. It’s been a long time since I had nails but luckily they are not too long so I have adjusted to having them. I painted them red, cos that is how I roll. I like red polish! Holidays were quiet here at my house. First holiday season back in the USA. I thought we’d visit family but that wasn’t $$$ feasible. No tree or massive decor this year either. Just a wreath, a table set from big lots, and a christmas candle from Hillhouse Naturals.
We threw a small christmas party for my husbands subordinates and neighbors, got each other a small gift with a $50 to $60 price range. He got a cashmere merino blend scarf and I got a vegan bag from sole society that will hopefully arrive soon. The pets got lamb scraps. We took a hike on the day after xmas around the ocean wilds a few minutes from our house to work off the lamb, potatoes, and green beans from the night before. We had Korean BBQ for dinner at a hole in the wall place here and watched two movies. The 100 foot journey and magic in the moonlight!
I’ve been debating on this brush set forever!!! Maybe they will go on clearance after the holidays? Or I’ll win!!

Great giveaway! I’ve been marathon watching these shows about Saturday Night Live on VH1. It makes me so nostalgic about where I was when and all that, and with the one on the first five years, really makes me realize what a screwed up time the 70s where and how difficult it must have been to be a young adult then and make good choices. I stayed up till 8 am this morning watching and I’m recording like a bazillion hours of it.

Hi Karen, I don’t know if you actually read these comments but I just wanted to tell you about my pets. I have 7.5 cats and one dog. How do I have 7.5 cats you ask? My brother and I share custody of my mother’s cat, Sadie. Mum has been living in a nursing home for over ten years. Sadie lived with me at first, then ran away for five years and reappeared recently. She hates other cats, and I mean HATES, not just the usual hissing and growling cats do at a strange new cat but she is a real psycho when other cats are around. Since I have seven cats when she lives with me she lives in a bedroom by herself, which isn’t much fun for her. She can’t go outside because she will probably disappear again. Anyway, my brother and his family took her while we went away for a month because our house sitter needed Sadie’s bedroom to sleep in. My niece, who’s four years old, loves Sadie now so they are keeping her for the time being. They have another cat so Sadie has to live in the garage at their house but at least she gets to spend time with Xanthe, my niece. Sadie is a long haired tabby, similar colours to Mr Tabs, but with all the hair she creates a lot of mess in her bedroom. Like tonnes of hair. Pillows full of it. Thanks for reading! Mardi

I got Diorskin Nude Skin-glowing foundation, Dior Addict lip gloss, Too Faced Sugar and Spice palette, Dior quints in Pink Design and Femme Fleur, Tom Ford Enchanted quad (backup for the one I have because I LOOOVE), Guerlain Lingerie De Peau foundation, and some skincare goodies. Yayyy!!

This christmas we were unable to travel and see family for our annual Italian seafood eve dinner so I made a shrimp étouffée from scratch for the first time. I was so nervous I was going to screw up dinner I bought back-up ingredients just in case I had to whip up something in case! Luckily it turned out delicious and my husband even went for seconds! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

My mom always gets me beauty products for Christmas, but she usually misses the mark just a bit. She doesn’t usually get me anything that I will actually use/like. This year was totally different. She did a great job! She got me a shampoo set for something I had recently sampled (and loved) and some shower gel that I had recently been planning to buy myself. I was stoked!
i was traumatized about baking back in college when my then-boyfriend convinced me to attempt his mother’s sugar cookie recipe. his disappointment at how not like his mother’s the cookies came out was so palpable that i don’t think i tried baking for years. fast forward to this holiday season when i made cheese biscuits like the ones from red lobster. granted, it used bisquick mix, so it was super simple, but they came out so well! i was really proud. i shared with my work colleagues and our upstairs neighbors. they seemed to enjoy them quite a bit.

I was once again the official Christmas eve cook this year. I spent the whole day in the kitchen making dinner for 12 people – caesar salad (dressing from scratch!), lasagna, hot jalapeno crab dip, turkey, paella, and butterscotch brownies.

I bought a Sonia Kashuk travel brush set years ago and still have it. I love her brushes but don’t live near a Target to look at her products very often. Looks like she has stepped up the game of cosmetics since then. Would love to try some of her newer products.
I had to limit my beauty loot to only 2 eyeshadow palettes this year, I got the Too Faced Everything Nice and Smashbox on the Rocks Luxe palette. Love them both
I absolutely love the gatsby-esque packaging on these products. Those brushes are beautiful, I almost wouldn’t want to use them and dirty the clean cream bristles… almost 🙂

I just purchased my first Sonia Kashuk product last week. I picked up one of the Velvet Lip Crayons in Berry Nude as a early Christmas present to myself. They are amazing! They remind me of the Nars matte lip pencils only smoother.
I’ve had one brush from Sonia Kashuk and it’s my go-to for eyeliner. I’d love to try more!
