Does thunder only happen when it’s raining? Do players only love you when they’re playing?
Excellent questions…but I don’t know. What I do know is this: if I spend any more time with the new Make Up For Ever La Bohème collection, I might turn into 1977 Stevie Nicks!
Which would be kinda cool. 🙂
But first…where’d I put my Rumours eight-track? Oh, there it is! Right next to that flowing maxi dress.
The four pieces in the new 1970s-inspired collection of makeup for lips and eyes showcase some of the soft colors, bold prints and flowing fabrics that recently made waves on runways for spring 2012.
Carefree romantic rebels, check this out: the limited edition launch, which just twirled into Sephora stores and Make Up For Ever Boutiques, spotlights eyes with MUFE’s first-ever baked eyeshadow palette, La Bohème ($39), and a new matte brown Aqua Eye Pencil ($18) called Gypsy.
Lips also loosen up with two new Rouge Artist Natural Lipsticks — one, an iridescent peachy beige called Bohème, and the other, a reddish coral called Folk ($19 each).
I have reviews and looks lined up, but here are a few pics to whet your appetite…
Okay, the shimmer and soft texture of the baked eyeshadows? WOW! Something tells me that palette’s gonna be a must-have.

Over the course of many merry Christmases and happy New Years, I’ve been guilty of myriad makeup faux pas, a few of which were regrettably caught on film (the horror!). And never mind the oversized twinkling reindeer horn hats or Bedazzled sweaters I was probably wearing at the time. In some of those pics I’m sure I was showcasing blotchy red patches and an oily forehead.
Eek!
In an effort to keep history from repeating itself, this year I’m enlisting the help of Make Up For Ever’s new Professional HD Complexion Starter Kit ($79).
It’s either that, or run the risk of being caught in another holiday pic looking like I’ve had too many cups of eggnog…
Yeah, no thanks! 🙂
The new four-piece set is designed to deliver flawless skin in three simple steps — 1. Prep, 2. Cover and 3. Finish. Available now at Sephora stores and also online, it comes with one full-size HD High Definition Foundation, travel sizes of Make Up For Ever’s HD High Definition Primer in #0 and HD High Definition Powder, and an HD Microfinish Kabuki Brush.

Today I found my makeup inspiration by looking down — down at the multi-colored leaves scattered on the sidewalk outside. Yup, I turned to Mother Nature this afternoon and reached for colors in copper, beige and khaki for my face of the day.
I’ve been meaning to try a look with Make Up For Ever’s new Wild & Chic Palette ($39) for, um, ever! MUFE fans, this palette does not disappoint. The rich colors are super easy to blend, and I think they look pretty great in pictures, too.
This look also features my new favorite lip combo — Pacifica Color Quench Lip Tint in Blood Orange topped with Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Blush. I wore it last week to Thanksgiving dinner and even got a few compliments from the makeup-loving cousins. 🙂
The look also features a few other tidbits from MAC and NARS.

Jeez, I swear, sometimes face paint is like chicken soup for my soul.
I was chugging along just fine this afternoon until about 3 p.m., and then…afternoon slump.
I’m not sure why or what happened — it might have something to do with the chilly weather — but I just couldn’t keep my eyes open. All I wanted to do was take a nap, an activity which, by the way, Tabs wholeheartedly approved.
But instead of napping, I made myself another cup of tea and set about trying to do something new for my makeup.
After this face of the day, which I did using holiday fare from the Make Up For Ever Wild & Chic, MAC Glitter and Ice and Clarins Passion collections (with a dash from the NARS permanent line), I actually felt a whole lot better.
Here’s a breakdown of the look, which features a silvery taupe eye, apricot cheeks and reddish brown lips…

Do you ever imagine yourself with a different name and think, “That’s just not right.” I’m a Karen, and that’s all there is to it. 🙂
Sometimes I do that with beauty products. I love it when things seem to fit their names, ya know? Like when you can’t imagine them being called anything else. It’s one of those extra little touches I appreciate, and when it comes to the new Make Up For Ever Wild & Chic Eye Shadow Palette, well, the name fits!
The snakeskin pattern on the outside — I mean that’s kinda wild — and the silver accent on the top? That’s pretty chic. And then there’s the colors inside. Six Make Up For Ever Eye Shadows in Bronze, Khaki, Pearly Light Pink, Brown Black, Metallic Copper and Beige, and a small Aqua Eyes #0L liner in black. From more conservative beige and brown (chic) on one side, to bolder green and bronze on the other (wild!).
Available exclusively at Sephora inside JCPenney stores, the $39 palette, part of the Wild & Chic holiday 2011 collection, almost resembles something for summertime, doesn’t it? Even the colors lean warm.

If it looks like something’s off in this pic, you’re right. There’s a color missing, Bronze #84. Poor thing arrived that way in the mail, so I included a PR picture down below. Chances are that wouldn’t be a problem if you decided to adopt one of these from the store, but ya never know. Might be a good idea to check your palette, just in case.
I can’t speak about the wayward bronze, but its brethren in the palette are flawless — highly pigmented, shimmery and silkier than the fur on my favorite husky tabby (but don’t tell him I said that!).
They’re shiny enough to catch one’s eye but not so frosty that they SHOUT! Very sophisticated, yet still a lot of fun.

PR picture above showing the missing bronze on the left (the one that got away), which oddly looks kind of green…

Seriously, Make Up For Ever has been on a yuletide tear this season, killin’ it — KILLING IT! — with the Wild & Chic collection for the holidays. It’s not a huge holiday release, but from what I’ve seen so far, it’s all sorts of amazing.
At $175, the Wild & Chic Aqua Cream Premium Set (available now at sephora.com) isn’t making any friends among wallets and purses, but if you’re an aficionado of MUFE’s Aqua Creams, it actually represents a pretty good deal. It comes with 10 full-size colors from the company’s permanent line, which usually cost $22 apiece (or $220 for 10), one full-size eyeshadow brush, and a durable, reusable tin.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Aqua Creams, they’re long-wearing waterproof cream shadows that are deliciously easy to blend. Some of them can be worn on cheeks and lips, others on cheeks and eyes; all 10 of the ones in this set are of the cheeks and eyes variety.
I’ve grown smitten with the Aqua Cream line over the past year or so and find myself using them a lot as cream eyeshadows and bases for powder shadows. They’re as dependable as oak trees (sturdy), and have a wonderful shimmer that lasts all day long.
Earlier today I took pics and swatches of the 10 shadows in the kit on two skin tones, a darker NC42 and a lighter NW25. Apologies for the lack of face/eye shots here, but I was pressed for time. I’ll try to incorporate a face of the day wearing at least one or two of these next week.
