Don’t these Metallishadow Crème + Powder jars by The Estée Edit look like the Tom Ford Cream and Powder Eye Colors from the side?
First time I saw ’em I made the (totally logical, I think) makeup leap of, “Haaay, TF dupes!” but ’twas not meant to be. 🙁 They’re really not that similar.
Bummer, too, because it would’ve been nice to find a bargain version of Tom Ford’s cream shadow duos, but I’m not shedding a single holographic rainbow glitter unicorn tear because either way, these are cool. There are seven of them for $25 each, and now they’re available in The Estée Edit permanent line.
There’s a cream shadow under the flip top and a loose metallic shadow tucked away underneath that when you unscrew the top.
As I’m sure you guessed, you can wear them separately or layer them together. The cream shadows are on the thinner side and feel like MAC Cream Colour Bases to me, and those you can use as an eyeshadow, eyeliner or as a base for the loose shadows they come with. The loose shadows, by the way, which you can apply with a wet or dry brush, are kinda fluffy like a MAC pigment.
The thing that will probably make or break these for you is how you feel about shadows that scoot and morph throughout the day, since these don’t stay in one place, especially the cream shadows. When I put a little on my lids, it kind of settles into my creases, which I would normally be totally annoyed by, but I’m not in this case! Because it looks shiny and very rock ‘n’ roll (even more so when you hit your water lines with a smudgy black liner).
I’m down with these duos whichever way, with the two products layered together or used apart. I like their glossy, grungy vibe, which is like that perfectly imperfect thing Kristen Stewart and Kate Moss have on their lids when the cameras catch them scowling as they’re about to get sushi, ya know? I’m into it, but if you’re all about prim precision, these duos will probably drive you cra-zay-zay.
The verdict
Go for it if you love editorial makeup with a glossy, grungy edge. Steer clear, though, if you prefer precise placement and perfect blending. They’re available now at Sephora stores and online for $25 a jar.

The whole undone glossy grunge chic is growing on me lately, I think I will wear it a lot in summer. The look of that green one is very pretty, although I’d probably play it safe with a bronzey color.
I love this casual vibe, plus the options you get by having both a cream and a powder. Looks fab!
I think the verdict is spot on, I checked them out but couldn’t blend them easily. And they creased on me. Similar idea to the Tom Ford one though and more affordable. Love this khaki top and makeup in brown tones- I’d wear that everyday if I could!

I love that red one …. only … it contains carmine. I’m allergic to carmine and can’t use it on my eyes. So sad. 🙁
They seem pretty versatile and the copper color is ideal for summer. 🙂
I love a bronzey eye look. This one is really pretty. I have to admit, I don’t mind a glossy, messy, undone look. It can be a tad sexy. Maybe I’ll head into The City today and see if these are at the Powell St. Sephora. I need to get out of this heat. Well really, I need to do some shopping/browsing without Dear Husband hovering. 😉

I like that look but it always looks too sloppy on me unless I have the right clothes. Even then, I’m not sure. I love it on others though!
I like layering powder shadow over cream shadow (especially in summer). However I’d probably just grab the bronze..and for $25 it’s not worth it. I can get a maybelline color tattoo for $8 and then layer my other shadows on top.
