Herald the trumpets, because I actually wore eyeshadow this week…repeatedly. ?
I KNOW.
I wore the new Urban Decay Naked Honey Eye Palette a few times and was surprised by the variety of eye looks I was able to do with it. Before I tried to test its limits, I didn’t expect it to be as versatile as it turned out to be because there isn’t a ton of variation among the shades, but you can actually do a lot of different things with it!

Look 1: “Tropical vibes”

It’s been a while since I’ve worn this much eyeshadow this many times in one week, and it was fun. It was fun getting gussied up a little more often than usual. ?

So beautiful Karen!! I am having a hard time with this palette.. I have the same skin tone as you, but I feel like all the shades (esp the matte ones), start looking the same after a while… and, it takes a while to build up the color! Any thoughts?

I do feel like I have to do a good amount of layering to build up the mid-tone browns, but one way to sort of “cheat” it a little is by buffing a very thin layer of a light beige eyeshadow all over your lids as a base before doing the mid-tone and darker browns. The shadow on the far left of the palette comes in handy for this! You could also use a thin layer of a beige or white cream shadow or liner as a base, too. That should help bump up the intensity!

I love it so far but it definitely is less casual brown on me and more yellow brown and orange. I tried it on at first without any face makeup and was like oh no, this is very bad. But with makeup on it looks better.
These looks are great!! I’m going to try to recreate some! I love how high up you being your transition shade. My lashes are very curly and long and so transition shades look one way without mascara and totally disappear with it. Working on it. Thank you for sharing!!

Oh for sure, I agree. It’s not really one of those palettes like Clinique Teddy which you can throw on and get away with not wearing much on the rest of your face. I definitely feel like it needs blush and lip color to balance it out.
One thing you can do to gauge how high up you can go is to put a very thin layer of mascara on your lashes before you start the eyeshadow. You’ll get a better sense of where to place your transition shade when you can see the lashes against your shadow. Another thing that I’ve found is that you can generally go up higher than you naturally want to go, especially if you plan to take pics.

That’s such a smart idea I’ll definitely try that. No pics for me, just a banker with a v large makeup habit. Do you do your makeup significantly different when you’re not taking pics for the blog?

I missed this post because I was traveling with Dear Daughter. Every single one of the looks you created is gorgeous. Trying so hard to not buy anymore eyeshadow since I wear it so rarely. Notice I didn’t say anything about avoiding lipstick purchases. 😉 But maybe I’ll get Honey for DD since she likes wearing gold on her lids and has hit pan on Half Baked in the original Naked palette.

I know this post is old, but I’m so glad I found your website. I’m a mature woman with the same warm undertones as you and dark hair. It’s so hard to find a beauty expert with the same warm skin tone. Sometimes I want to see how a product looks on warm a undertone so I can have an idea what it would look like on me. The purple and gold eyeshadow look is so, so pretty on you. I remember a Sephora gal matched my purple lipstick with a shimmery gel like cooper/gold eyeshadow and the color combination was AMAZING. You look reminds me of this. I just bought some small palettes from Juvia’s place and the color pigment is great. The Honey palette has a coppery, shimmer eyeshadow that I will pair with a purple lipstick. I’m going to try to recreate your look and the Sephora gal’s look as well.
