Hiya, my ’round the way girls,
Did you have a good weekend? As usual, mine went by way too quickly, but I managed to sneak in a few fun things, like a visit to Sausalito (a pretty, touristy town in southern Marin), a movie (The Perfect Getaway … come to mama Josh Duhamel!) and discovering a fab new hair product.

I’ve been desperate for something to revive my mane, which has been looking scragglier than post-Britney K-Fed. To get it to behave, I’ve been overdosing on heat styling — abusing it with the hair dryer, flat iron *and* curling iron. Terrible, I know. Now, my long locks look and feel coarse, dull and dry.
So, when I heard about Kerastase’s new Chroma Thermique ($36), I went haaaay!
Some quick background: Chroma Thermique is the newest member of the Chroma Riche line, designed by Kerastase to add softness, moisture and shine to dull, dry colored hair. Wrapped up in purty pink bottles, these floral-scented shampoos, conditioners and treatments cost a pretty penny, ranging from $32-58 (ouch).
Chroma Thermique, the newest member of the gang, is a rich leave-in treatment that adds moisture, shields hair from heat and infuses it with protective UV filters. Kerastase recommends working a walnut-sized dollop from shaft to ends after shampooing/conditioning and before blow drying.

First off, it’s a fantastic de-tangler. All my knots disappeared (and I *always* have plenty to spare), allowing my brush to slip through quite easily. The extra slip seemed to decrease the time and effort it usually takes to blow dry, which this busy girl totes appreciates.

Hella hungry! I’ve been up since six and have yet to eat breakfast. Otherwise, just peachy.
Lust at first sight, yes, but love, no. I think love comes after you discover things like his unlawfully long toenails and penchant for Celine Dion power ballads — and yet, you still think he’s tops.
If I can mosey along and take my sweet ol’ time, up to two hours. Most days, though, I finish in 30 minutes.
Please don’t make me stare at hairy man cankles, thanks.
After reading about MAC and Mad Men this morning I felt compelled to bust out a ’60s-inspired look. Eyes: a black cat eye with LORAC Front of the liner Pro and tons of Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara. Lips: MAC Lipstick in Cockney from the Euristocrats 2 collection. Cheeks: Lancome Color Design Blush in Petticoat Pink.
Back when Craigslist was in its infancy (hello, totally dating myself) and not yet brimming with scary pervs, I went on dates with a few nice guys. No serious relationships, though.
30. Signing my name’s almost like writing a dissertation (almost).
Tabs acting like a crazy kitty last night. He kept circling the apartment at full speed and then going in for crash landings into his new kitty condo. Too funny!
I need to do laundry something desperate. Today I’m rocking what I like to describe as the “hobo-chic” look — barely clean dark jeans, a wrinkly gray tank top and a pink zip-up sweater.
Log in at least 10 hours of reading (I’m on a mission to reduce the hours I spend watching crappy reality TV … so hard!), go running at least twice, eliminate at least one pile of clutter surrounding my desk every day, and avoid procrastination.
‘Sup, ladies. I’m running a little behind today, but better late than never, right?
Before your boss asks you to complete yet another asinine task that makes you roll your eyes in the privacy of your cubicle (LOL, totally guilty of this), take a second to share what’s new by filling out the Monday Poll. Grab the list below, pop in your answers, and share in the comments. 🙂

Joan Holloway, played by actress Christina Hendricks
Good morning, chicas! I know a few of you gals are fiends for the TV show, Mad Men. Did you know MAC’s the genius behind the show’s 60s-inspired makeup?
I love, LOVE the clean, fresh and elegant looks the three main female characters — Joan Holloway (an office manager at an advertising agency), Elizabeth “Betty” Draper (a housewife) and Peggy Olson (a copy writer at an advertising firm) — wear.
This morning my friends at MAC sent me an interesting Q&A with lead Mad Men makeup artist, Lana Horochowski. She discusses the creative process (always a fascinating thing to me), along with the MAC products used to create each character’s distinct look. I thought you might enjoy it while you sipped on your morning cup o’ java. 🙂 Enjoy!

P.S. Since you’re here, it’s probably safe to assume that you like MAC Cosmetics as much as I do. 🙂 Have you seen my MAC Gallery? It’s a visual way to search for MAC reviews and looks on Makeup and Beauty Blog.
You’re the new department head at Mad Men for season three. Will you be making any changes to any character’s makeup?
Since we are moving a little forward into the future, we have changed up the color palette for each character to go along with the time period.
When you were preparing for this season, did you do any research for inspiration? If so, what most inspired you?
Weeks and weeks of meetings and research. I love looking through the old magazines. They are a great reference and a huge source of inspiration; however, we do try to keep the characters looking like real people that do their own makeup and not like movie stars with a makeup artist standing by. Magazines and old movies are a great guideline for a basic look and color selection.

How would you describe the looks of each one of the characters? How do they differ?
What are your key products for creating the makeup looks for the main female characters?
What are your favorite MAC products for each character?

Elizabeth “Betty” Draper, played by actress January Jones
Everyone always notices the lips on the show, but brows seem to play a very important part to the look. Can you talk about the brows on the show?
Women of the 60s had a stricter code of style and etiquette, so people tended to follow the trends closer to the book. Nowadays, women have a variety of different brow styles so we are constantly tweezing, shaping and filling the brows to recreate the look of the period.
Each character has the most perfect lashes framing her eyes. What are your favorite lashes to use to get that perfectly plump line of lashes?
We love the MAC individual lashes as well as the traditional strip lashes.
Do you collaborate with the hair and costume departments when coming up with a look?
Absolutely! We have at least three meetings per episode to create the look as a unit. I could not do this show without Lucia Mace (hair), Janie Bryant (costumes) and my fabulous key [makeup artist] Ron Pipes!
There seems to be a lot of making out on the show, how many times do you have to redo those red lips? Does it get messy?
We do what we can to seal the lip color, but we still have to go in every take to perform a minor clean up.
What can real women take away from the show’s look and incorporate into their everyday look?
Well, a great start would be lining the top lash line only with a gel liner like M·A·C Fluidline. We love this product for recreating the perfect 60s eye.
Also, replacing gloss and sheer or shimmer lipsticks with matte reds, bright pinks and corals help create a more retro look.
Lastly, instead of a powder blush try using creme in pinks and corals to create a flushed looking cheek. For evening, strip lashes are always a bonus.

MY BEST:
Discovering how great Too Faced Shadow Insurance works as an eyebrow powder base. The stuff *really* puts a lock down on color and holds up well to sweat. So far I’ve only worn it to workouts, but I bet it’ll represent when I get my dance/sweat on at the club.
MY WORST:
I learned the importance of adequate sleep to successful at-home eyebrow waxing. Yes, it was my first time, but I think lack of sleep was a bigger factor. Now half of my left eyebrow is totes MIA!
What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Spill the beans in the comments.

Greetings and salutations, ladies. How’s your Sunday shaping up? Mine was going great until a minute ago…
I just got off the phone with the New York Police Department. It seems a certain tabby cat was arrested for sabotaging some very expensive equipment downtown.
Apparently, the evidence is in these security camera photos. Can you spot the seven differences between these pictures? 🙂
