Just For Fun

And not just when you catch an itty-bitty glimpse of silver. I’m talking MAJOR pan, like when there’s more metal at the bottom of that pan than powder, and you start worrying about running out completely.

I jump around between products, so it doesn’t happen too much, but sometimes (’cause I do love wearing the face paint!), it happens, and when it does, for a time it feels glorious! — like I conquered something BIG, a makeup Mt. Everest or something.

But that soon turns to sadness or panic, when I realize that, shoot, I’m gonna run out.

Here are some of the products I’ve hit major pan on, in no particular order, which is a testament to how much I love them.

• MAC Woodwinked Eye Shadow — One of my old faithfuls. I wear Woodwinked on my lids a lot after sleepless nights. It’s one of my tried-and-true tools to fake looking awake.
• Bobbi Brown Peach Color Corrector — OK, don’t ask me why I’m keeping two empty pans of this right now. Honestly, I don’t know. It’s just one of those weird makeup things, I guess. There’s still a tiny bit of product in there, and I can’t bear to let it go.
• MAC Blushbaby Blush — Man, if MAC ever discontinued Blushbaby…I don’t even know what would happen. Sh*t would hit the fan! That’s all I’m sayin’. I’d be out there tracking down every last one like a mad woman. Out of my way, b*tches!
• MAC Soba Eye Shadow — Soba, a golden brown with a sheen finish, is one of my shadow faves this time of year (I like it best when I don’t have a tan)…and other times when I’m too lazy to buff MAC Cork’s matte finish, haha. Soba’s subtle shimmer makes it easier to blend, which is why I wear it a lot. It looks amazing smudged on top of a basic black liner, by the way.

You have to marry Bret Michaels, who in this scenario is a polygamist and you’re wife number three of eight. You also have absolutely no chance of escape/divorce.

Scenario #2

You have to spend your entire wedding day with extra large, extra obnoxious rollers in your hair, so that when you walk down the aisle, smile and say, “I Do,” BAM! — you’re wearing those big-@ss rollers in all of the pics (and you can’t take them out or cover them with anything)…

or

You can spend the rest of your life with a thick carpet of wiry, plush hair on both of your butt cheeks. And it grows really fast (when you shave at night, it’s back in full force by the next morning).

You have to get two permanent brow tattoos, where one side is thick like Groucho Marx’s, and the other is pencil thin…

What’s for lunch, babe? I’m starved! Can I interest you in some veggie potstickers from Trader Joe’s…? They’re nutritious and delicious (well, I don’t know about that first part), and they’re my new blog workout snack/easy lunch.

Easy is important because I’m always chasing the sun through the windows to take the best, brightest pics I can with as much natural light as possible. This time of year that means being done with all of my beauty pics by no later than 4:30 p.m.

Most afternoons I blaze through my lunch, which very often constitutes the aforementioned potstickers or other snackage from Trader Joe’s, to catch the afternoon sun and take as many blog pics as I can before it sets.

I’m like a charging rhino every afternoon! — dragging tripods, heavy cameras and giant light boxes up and down the stairs while awkwardly holding huge disc-shaped reflectors just out of the shot, and then *click* pose for the picture.

Then it’s back upstairs to download the pics from my camera card to the computer, upload them to the blog, captioning the pics (“Here I’m wearing…” and “Swatches from the left…”), writing the product review and voila! Instant blog post.

You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”

Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past six years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.

1. How many pets do you currently assist in your capacity as a professional pet assistant?
   Just one demanding diva tabby. I’d love to get him an officemate, also known as someone else to boss around, but he’s an alpha cat (’nuff said). Something tells me that would not go well…
2. Glasses or contacts?
   I have both, but mostly glasses, because I like being “the girl with the glasses.” But I do wear my contacts when I work out.
3. Are you close to any of your cousins?
   Not really, unfortunately. I have a large extended family, but we didn’t see them very much when I was growing up because we all lived so far apart.

   I always thought it would be cool to be BFFs with a cousin.

4. Have you ever had bangs?
   Yes, off and on since I was a kid. Right now mine are side-swept, but I had a blunt cut a couple years ago that went across my forehead.
5. Ice cream or sorbet?
   Sorbet is bullsh*t.
6. Do you ever take selfies?
   Uh…are cats moody?

   That’s a yes. 🙂 But it’s usually just to make sure my eye makeup looks even, LOL!

7. How do you usually fill in your brows?
   Usually using a thin, flat blush or an angled brush and eyeshadow, which I apply in the sparse areas.

   There are other ways, but I like this one because it’s quick, easy and I like how natural it looks.

8. Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of a sorority?
   No, but I had a lot of friends who were in college. They were nice girls and were always trying to get me to join.

   I don’t know… I think I might’ve liked it, but I just didn’t have the time between work, volunteering and school.

9. When was the last time you went to the beach?
   Oh, boy. I wish I could go today — to a warm beach — but it was last August in Kauai.

   I miss the hotel kitties…

10. Are you working on any arts and crafts projects?
    Not now, but I would love to knit Tabs an infinity scarf with a matching beanie.

Hmm… I’m not completely sold on this whole Monday thing. I didn’t really get a lot of stimulus last weekend, so I don’t have any interesting anecdotes to share. I mean, I did have a cool conversation with a guy at Trader Joe’s yesterday about the 49ers. That was probably the most interesting conversation I had all week, outside of the stuff we talk about here (because makeup is always pretty interesting to me).

But the football thing does not bode well for my overall creativity this week, although who knows? Maybe we’ll talk about some football stuff this week. Anyone? Which team has your favorite uniforms?
